POLICE made signifcant seizures of class A, B and C drugs in the Highlands and Islands overnight.

Cannabis with the street value of £25,000 was seized with a large quantity of cash along with amounts of class A and B drugs thought to be ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine and LSD.

The searches took place overnight on the Isle of Lewis, Inverness and Kyleachin. Six people have been charged in connection with these incidents and a further two people are being investigated.

Detective Inspector Iain Smith, head of the Drugs Squad, said, "These seizures reflect the Force's commitment to targeting those involved in the supply of controlled drugs throughout the Force area in an intelligence led way. However, these seizures would not be possible without also the support and assistance of local communities."

Head of operations for Northern Constabulary, Chief Superintendent Bruce Duncan, congratulated the officers involved for their work: "These latest seizures demonstrate some excellent investigative police work.

"Those involved in drug dealing should be aware that we will continue to proactively target those involved in the supply of controlled drugs, with the aim of removing drug dealing from the Highlands and Islands."

The police urged members of the public to report anything suspicious or anyone they believe may be involved in the consumption or circulation of illegal substances to Police in Inverness on XXXXX XXXXXX or Crimestoppers on XXXX XXXXXX anonymously.
