San Pedro Skin
My friend was wondering if it is ok to leave the skin and ingest it after drying and powdering the cactus as peeling this stuff off is a real annoyance. Hes heard that it may add to the nausea but plans to take some dramamine before ingestion. Any problems with this? Any good recipes that could be made with the powder? He was thinking either some kind of smoothie or just mix with something like orange juice a little bit at a time and take shots. What would someone recommend?

tell your friend to read the very first "preparation" section. Cut up the cactus and put it in a blender.. blend. Put all of it into a pot. Boil it down for 2 hours or so until there is nothing but thick slime at the bottom. Squeeze all of the slime through a t-shirt (or other similar cotton fabric) and collect the liquid. If swiy would boil it down enough there shouldn't be more than 4 shots for each person. This cactus will positively not mix well with anything. SWIM recommends sucking on a lemon right before and after shooting the juice. Your friend can leave the spines, skin, and everything attached when cutting up the cactus. Boiling the pureed cactus will soften all the spines and dehydrate the mix; straining it through the cloth will keep the spines and toxic matter out of your liquid. Expect no vomitting with this recipe. However, some initial queeziness is expected (it tastes terrible and your stomach agrees!) Ask your friend how it goes! |

Re: San Pedro Skin
Better to remove the waxy cuticle (clear "skin") - it contains waxes and saponins (soap-like substances) that will increase nausea. Easily removed if SWIY runs a knife down each side of the spines in a line, removes that section, then runs the knife down the "valley" between the ribs. Then, assuming that there isn't any snail damage to the plant, simply pull the waxy cuticle off by standing a 1 foot-section of cactus in the sink and pulling it off. The cuticle will tear where there is any damage though. then, remove strips with triangular cross-section of the flesh (green + white), and use a sharp knife to remove the green layer, exactly the same as filletting a fish (green layer down on the chopping board). quick and easy and leaves most of the crap behind, as the majority of mescaline is in the green portion. SWINM has never found any difference in juicing / boiling up the green + white layers, compared with just the green (3-5mm) layer. If boiling, starch will precipitate out, which can be tipped off and wached with boiling water (starch doesn't re-dissolve; mescaline will; check with pH paper if uncertain). If boiling it right down to a powder BEWARE mini-explosions as it gets thicker - SWINM has ended up having to scrape thick, sticky extract off the walls and ceilings due to this behaviour. Alcohol extract is probably better - there is a tek here (http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54076) that details this that SWINM has never tried, but most definitely will once SWINM gets a Still and can easily produce sizable volumes of high-purity ethanol
(Ethanol distillation being legal in the state that SWINM lives of course!)

Re: San Pedro Skin
the skins are said to sometimes have more alkaloids in them then the flesh itself.wether these are mesc. or not dont no but there r several other alkaloids in cactii that differ the effects from pure mesc.(not in a bad way)do a basic chemical tek, plenty of easy ones,no foul taste, no sickness, bit more involved than tea or alcohol extraction but worth it when u end up with nice white crystals rather than a pile of green goo

Re: San Pedro Skin
from swim's understanding the skin its self contains little alkaloids but just onder the skin there is are reasonable amount of alkaloids thats why people also blend the skin
