Kava kava legality

My local GNC clerk just informed me that kava kava had supposedly become illegal in the United States. I found this info to be questionable, so I ran home and checked the internet, and found nothing to back up her statement. Does GNC just not carry kava (couldn't find it on their website either) or what? Thanks

Haha, kava is not illegal in the states. It was banned in a few other countries, however, citing potential liver damage claims. Most of the people who had liver problems were taking the kava pills, not the tea.

Alright, thanks. yeah that's the info I found when I looked on Erowid. GNC sucks

Well I don't think GNC is the kind of place that one would go to get kava since it has no real health value. Many herbal shops or alternative food stores carry kava and the internet is probably the best place to go for kava.
