Alprazolam and Hydrocodone withdrawal
SWIM has been using opiates for about 5 years. More on than off. Has been using Xanax for about a year. SWIM takes around 50MG to 100MG a day of hydrocodone. Also take around 4-6mg of xanax.
SWIM Has lost any connects he has and tomorrow will be the first day without both. Should SWIM try to stick it out by his self or go to the hospital? SWIM has hyper tension and also an irregular heart beat. He is scared that if he doesn't get some kind of help he might have irregular problems. Any info about what SWIM could do would be welcome. Also SWIM was using these drugs illegally. |

Re: Xanax and Hydrocodone withdrawal
SWIM needs to go to the hospital. Opioid/opiate withdrawals are a horrible ordeal yet not usually dangerous; whereas benzo withdrawals are a serious medical issue that requires medical oversight and treatment. They can be fatal.
Good luck. Seek medical attention if SWIY hasn't already. |

Re: Xanax and Hydrocodone withdrawal
I second that. The OP was from early June, but for anyone in such a situation the advice here applies. Please do seek medical help, the opiate withdrawal will potentially be uncomfortable, but if it involves a combination of substances/withdrawals, and especially since one of them is benzodiazepines, swiy will want to have support staff present to assist in case of mental or physical discomfort or possibly life threatening consequences (which are often easily prevented/treated in a proper setting and with advance notice, but if it's too late or they don't know the situation it becomes much more dangerous) In addition, any other health problems are also an important deciding factor, and should prompt one to seek medical advice. Swim knows it is scary when one has been using drugs via an "illegal" route, and one does not want to be looked down on or mistreated, but eventually we will move past this morality issue, for now a majority of doctors do recognize that no matter the circumstances of drug use, addiction and withdrawal are most certainly medical issues to be addressed. Best of luck and please keep us posted!!~

Re: Xanax and Hydrocodone withdrawal
definetlky a hopsital would be a good idea for swiy. i know that opiate withdrawals can cause heart arrythmias if bad enough. the withdrawal from both drugs is definetly an ordeal for the body and swim would think that, that would make the heart work extra hard.
