Drug info - Carisoprodol: Branded has better effects than Generic?

SWIM has been prescribed Soma 350mg tablets (carisoprodol) for the past few months, combined with PT. he finds them very useful when doing stretches, various PT exercises, and yoga: he can stretch further than he otherwise would be.

Initially, SWIM's local pharmacy dispensed tablets manufactured by either Watson (imprint: Dan5513) or methinks Mutual (imprint: MP58). These were very effective in SWIM's opinion.

When SWIM got his script this week, he noticed that the pharmacy had changed contracts or something... his pills were now manufactured by CorePharma (imprint:COR103). Ghasp! Is that.......yes..yes, it is! Muscle tension!

SWIM also knows other people who have had similar experiences. In order to be generic, by law in the US it MUST be between 90%-110% of the original product. SWIM once had a wonderful dream where he found 10 Brand name SOMA tablets, and 10 Brand name PERCOCET (oxycodone/apap) tablets. He thinks that the first two manufacturers probably comply with the 90-110 percent thing, but questions CorePharma.

There are several drugs whose brand is noted to have potency differences. Digoxin, a heart med, for instance.

SWIM is confused why or how a drug could act differently in the CNS, regardless of the manufacturer. Hydrogen is Hydrogen...it will act the same way as other Hydrogen atoms (....well, you get the idea! ). As long as the chemical structure is indeed carisoprodol....wouldn't it.....but how...abuh?

And heck, while we're at it, anyone want to throw in their own observations of particular manufacturing differences?

and Finally... whereas if there is indeed a documented difference in manufacturer, be it macroscopically, or to the individual patient, is this grounds to request that the box titled DAW (Dispense As Written) be filled in?

Swim once obtained Soma on prescription. After Anna Nicole died they put Carisoprodol on a list and swim wasn't able to get it on prescription anymore. Since then swims been obtaining them from various internet retailers. swIm has never been quite as satisfied with the Internet retailers Soma as swIm was with swims prescription. Although even when swim would leap for the more expensive Soma that was supposedly overnighted from local pharmacies in Swim's state they were not quite up to par with what swim once had.

Does quality Soma still exist? and is it only by prescription if you want the real thing?

I know what your saying.. Swim used to get em scripted and now swims on the constant search to find the soma's swim once had scripts for.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carisoprodol is a prescription drug in the U.S., In the open forum we cannot discuss sources or prices, we cannot know the consistency nor quality of a online vendor. It is tredding on thin ice ordering somas off the internet without a prescription in the U.S.

One may just have a tolerance now. If one is buying name brand meds they should not differ unless aged.

Just a heads up-another swim on this fourm had wrote in one of his threads that he often orders Soma over the internet.He stated that in the US some of these sites that are selling(without a prescription) this are operating under a law that says you can order medication for your pet online,and I guess Soma is dished out to to your pet at his vet apointment.And the return address on his package and credit card said it came from a pet medication supply warehouse.(cannot list the name but it sounded phoney)....go figure.Also wanted to mention about brand/generic soma,well swim gets prescribed Soma 250mg in brand name.He used to get the 350mg ones and they worked very well but with the 250s, if he takes one he can't even feel its effects, so swim takes 2 at a time and the effects still feel less than a 350mg Soma(and thats 150mg more than the 350s) It's brand name but it doesen't work as good as the 350mg..Cannot figure that one out,I'd get the generic but they do not make a generic 250mg Soma.At least the last time he checked,but everything changes.

Swim has bought meds online that were not up to par with those from a real world pharmacy like Walgreens.

Not too long ago there were several articles in my local paper about comparing generic and brand meds. Sadly, I did not save it. However, Swim has encountered some curious non-placebo lack of effects from certain generic meds, eg, dosage did not match effects. Hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol, alprazolam, etc.

Brand name seems to perform more solidly, even though generic is usually just as good.

Sorry I can't speculate as to why there are different. I believe the articles said it was differences in preparation of the meds.
