Re: Can methadone be of any help?
Methadone is a very strong opioid, 100% synthetic.
It has a very specific effects and it builds up in the body trough time so it might even happen that after some time less Methadone is needed to make the same analgesia. But it is habit forming and the withdrawals from it lasts more than a month. Hope I helped, I'm on the Methadone maintenance therapy for already 2 years. Voyager added 5 Minutes and 23 Seconds later... P.S. Just be carefull with ethadone, that's all. Slowly dose it to your confortable dose, but slowly day by day. Voyager added 0 Minutes and 51 Seconds later... Wanted to say "METHADONE". Last edited by Voyager; 29-05-2008 at 16:05. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Can methadone be of any help?
It depends what your withdrawals are from in the first place. Also the dosage would be important but methadone has some of the worst withdrawals of any opiate so you would just be switching to something worse.

Re: Can methadone be of any help?
In SwiS's opinion, what really needs to be considered is that "will this person return to opiate abuse?" if the chance of this is overwhelmingly yes, than considering a methadone maintenance is probably wise. Swis understands that the OP just wants to use a bit to get through the withdrawls, but if chances are they will end up back where they started, getting stabailized on Methadone is a wise choice.
SwiS has been on 115mg methadone for about 2yrs. He occasionaly thinks "man, i wish i hadn't started this shit" but then he realized if he didn't he would be going back and forth from quitting/withdrawl to using and back again. The key to methadone is to give your life back, not really make you drug free. As far as the original question, SwiS would rec. only using a very very small dose for a couple days max just to help soften the withdraw. Best regards....S |

Re: Can methadone be of any help?
swim would suggest suboxone rather than methadone because while suboxone does have some withdrawls, it is nowhere near the hell you will go through with methadone...now only using for a few days wont be bad, but as spyder said, if you are going to just be a chipper then do it to where you wont get sick, or don't use at all once you detox. SWIM knows how hard it is to stay clean, so maybe a maintenence program is your best bet.
