Generic Adderall XR?
SWIM has been prescribed Adderall XR recently. SWIM has never been prescribed ADHD medicine but has had it all his life but just recently discovered it.
SWIM's family is having money problems recently and SWIM's insurance doesn't cover Adderall. After reading wikipedia SWIM has learned the closest generic to Adderall XR is Dexedrine which SWIM also read was cheaper. SWIM noticed the dosage was different (only 5 10 and 15 mg where Adderall goes up to 30mg). The Pharmacy SWIM goes to said to be able to get Dexedrine I need the specific prescription from SWIM's doctor. How would SWIM ask his doctor about getting Dexedrine instead and would the 15mg dose of Dexedrine be the same effectiveness of 15 mg Adderall. SWIM takes 20 mg Adderall XR and doesn't want to go onto a weaker doseage. |

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
Explain the money situation to the doctor and ask to try dexedrine, at least until Shire's patent over adderall XR expires next year?
Dexedrine is more potent than adderall, that is why the dosages do not go up as high. |

SWIM did read that it was more potent and more recreational because its one amphetamine sulfate and not 4 separate ones that metabolize at different rates such as Adderall. That isn't the reason SWIM would like it though, just another benefit. SWIM just can't afford it. Does anyone know if it is cheaper than Adderall XR though? and what price SWIM could expect it to be?
I'm new here and I know we aren't supposed to discuss prices because of illegal trade but wasn't sure if that was just for illegal trade or not so disregard the last question if it is. |

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
This is my first post, but I believe I can help.
If I am right,Adderal XR is not available as a generic.Regular release Adderal is,but it doesn't last nearly as long.So you would have to dose twice a day for it to last all day. Dexedrine is available as a generic in both the regular release formula and time release. From what I have researched on the web,Dexedrine is the best ADD medication available for most patients. It isn't prescribed as often though ,because potential for abuse is higher than Adderal. Now keep in mind SWIM has never tried either of these. He was recently diagnosed with adult add.His doctor prescribed him Strattera. He feels no positive effects off this so doctor wanted him to try Wellbutrin. He had taken this before and told doctor it sucked too.Now he is trying to get doctor to give him a "real" ADD treatment.By that I mean a stimulant. Now that I got that out of the way,let me tell you what stimulants SWIM has used.Didrex(benzphetamine),Adipex(phentermine),Eph edrine, and D-Methamphetamine(sythesised from RPI reduction of Pseudoephedrine). The ephedrine, phentermine, and benzphetamine gave SWIM bad side effects.Mainly being:High heart rate and the jitters.D-Meth worked the best for his ADD symptoms(at the right doses,of course)It seemed as though SWIM could get through the day with ease and still sleep at night as long as he only took 60mg daily in the morning(snorted).SWIM then found out he couldn't handle his urge of wanting to do more though. He had a hard time having a gram around and usually ended up doing it within a week(with no sleep of course ).This was not working for the ADD so SWIM had to quit. The point of this rambling on is D-Methampetamine and D-Amphetamine(Dexedrine) act the same on the CNS.D-Meth is more intense and last longer, but pretty much the same effects. If one was to get Dexedrine and take it at doses prescribed,it is probably the best treatment for most.Adderal is a mixture of amphetamine salts and probably has more side effects for most.I keep saying "for most" because drugs effect different people in different ways. As for the price difference,I would have to say Dexedrine will be cheaper. This is because it is available in a generic.I'm not for sure though. The best way to find out is call a local pharmacy. If you didn't want to do that(don't see why you wouldn't)try a search engine like "smoogle" or something. Hope this has been helpful. Now that I have broken the ice I may find myself posting more. |

Second of all, does SWIY's doctor know about SWIY's past drug use? I was a bit surprised he tried straterra AND welbutrin before anything else, sounds like he wants to avoid anything close to methamphetamine. Quote:

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
SWIM is seeing a Psychologist and a medical doctor who work together in finding scripts for him.The reason he does this is he doesn't have the money or insurance to go anywhere else. The clinic he goes to does not have a psychiatrist,so this is the only way for SWIM right now.
When SWIM first went to see her,he was having issues with the ex and was really stressed. He took a small test for Bi-polar and she thought he may be.When he was taking the test he had put down he had racing thoughts(he did at night when he was trying to sleep). The test also asked if he had days where he felt great and the opposite of how he normally felt.He answered yes to this too(although now that he remembers,he was on stimulants those days ).So swim was prescribed Seroquel for manic symptoms. This did help with his racing thoughts at night(which he now thinks were just a normal reaction to his problems in life). He slept like a baby. The problem was,SWIM still is foggy during the day,and just plain can't get motivated. So back to the drawing board.SWIM has told psychologist about abuse. He also mentioned that when using stimulants to a point,he found him self a very productive citizen. She agreed with him that the Bi-polar may have been a mis-diagnosis.She also said that SWIM would benefit from stimulant drugs, even if he had to have a responsible person to give daily doses. The main reason he thinks the doctor is not prescribing stimulants first was the bi-polar .Also he has high blood pressure, which is now under control by taking pills. He sees the doctor tomorrow, hopefully he can get a script for Vyvanse. This seems to be the drug with the most benefit, and least potential for abuse.SWIM doesn't plan on abusing them anyway. He just wants to go back to work and be a normal(or as close to it as possible) person. The psychologist also gave SWIM a test for ADD and his results were of the chart. She also seems to think Vyvanse will be the answer.Find out tomorrow if this is the case. Sorry about hijacking this thread though, anymore ADD post I have I will start my own.BTW,SWIM used to browse the Hive a while back and loved it.He was always afraid to post(due to some "dreams" he was having). He is now on the up and up now so has no fear of wrongful imprisonment .This seems the closest thing there is to the hive anymore, and SWIM would have to say it is pretty cool from what he has seen so far.

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
Don't worry about it. And welcome to the forums this is my first week here and this was my first thread.
SWIM's doctor first talked about Straterra but he said it took a few months to kick in. Pretty pointless. Also SWIM needed the medicine to help him on his final exams which were in 3 days. SWIM was actually supposed to get medicine to help him on his AP exams (More important and much harder in SWIM's opinion. And SWIM had more of them) SWIM's mom sat on her ass about getting him into the doctor and so SWIM was buying Adderall off of friends for AP exams. SWIM had been to this doctor once before and wrote SWIM off as a hypochondriac. SWIM and mom wanted to try new doctor but it would look bad on a first visit to a doctor asking to get Adderall. SWIM went alone before since he is now 18 and mom's work schedule was too crazy to go with him. Well the last time she went and the doctor actually took SWIM seriously and gave SWIM Adderall. He said he only prescribes Adderall XR though because according to him, its impossible to snort and and feel effects and abuse. Really than why did SWIM snort a few earlier and feel effects? He also added it will trigger methamphetamines or amphetamines on a drug test so his exact words were "WHEN(not if but WHEN) THC/Marijuana shows up on his next drug test be concerned" SWIM's doctor knows nothing of SWIM's past drug use but SWIM's mom does(Weed, Alcohol, Cigarettes, Mushrooms, and Acid). More recently which neither of them know of though consists of uppers (Ecstasy, Cocaine, Amphetamines(not meth just adderall). SWIM has been straight up with his mom about the first group and said those just weren't for him and he can't do downers because he can't function. Which is true SWIM out of all of those only smokes cigarettes and on a rare occasion Acid and Mushrooms. SWIM loves uppers because he can be chill and relax but still function even better than sober and have energy to do stuff but isn't wired(nothing wires SWIM he can sleep on anything). SWIM's mother only knows of his Amphetamine experimenting which is how SWIM realized his ADHD/ADD. And may be starting to stumble onto his Raver lifestyle of Ecstasy binges on the weekend. My reason for adding in all that is becase SWIM's doctor who has no proof and has heard nothing about SWIM's past drug use just assumes he will abuse and has given him Adderall XR for lower potential for abuse. SWIM worries if he asks for Dexedrine his doctor will fear of abuse because it is more potent. SWIM's doctor will also question SWIM's knowledge in this, SWIM might even know more than his doctor.(SWIM is fascinated by Psychology and how substances affect the mind/body and everything that makes substances work. Mainly Ecstasy and Amphetamines. SWIM knows almost everything there is to know about D-Amphetamine medicines.) SWIM actually did not know about Dexedrine generics but assumed dexedrine would be cheaper than Adderall due to name brand(kind of like fashion with Gucci and Louie Vuitton pants beint thousands while the same pants cheaper under the Levis brand). SWIM would like Dexedrine for his ADHD but also would use it recreationally like his doctor thinks. The main reason is ADHD the added potency of it would just be a benefit of it. Sorry for the wall of text guys. If you actually read it all high five. |

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
SWIM thinks Adderal XR can be snorted. The little balls inside the capsule must be thoroughly crushed though. The XR cost so much more because it is not available as a generic. It will be soon as the patent for the drug wears off.The Dexedrine is available as a generic even in time released version. These are known as
exedrine Spansule Capsules sustained release 5 mg, 10 mg and 15 mg.They would be just as hard to snort as a Adderal XR.The reason they would be more likely to be abused is because it has the favored isomer the Dextro instead of having mixed salts as the Adderal does.Anyway, just explain to your doctor your financial situation and thell him the Adderal works good,it just cost to much.Hope he don't try to give you Ritalin or something. If he does, tell him you would rather try the time realease Dexedrine. If he doesn't go for that,he should at least give you the generic Adderal,to take twice daily.I mean hell,if your doctor thinks that Adderal XR won't be abused because they are time released, then why would he think it would be any easier to snort a Dexedrine Spansule? If he won't prescribe that because he thinks that Dexedrine is a more addictive form of the drug, then he should give you generic Adderal. Of course SWIM can't get into doctor's head, but he thinks this has to bee close to his train of thought.Anyway, good luck.SWIM's on the way to DR. now and is hoping to get Vyvance. He thinks this may be better since he really doesn't want to even have the urge to snort. He is also hoping his insurance will cover it.Wish me luck too .Later.

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
Good Luck. I hear Vyvanse is being planned to replace Adderall XR. A friend of mine is on the 70mg of it and loves it. I hate how people are ignorant about it and he says its 70mg Adderall. He couldn't even tell me the name of it and I texted him and he said it was a little freaky when he checked the pill bottle and I was right.
SWIM knows Adderall XR can be snorted lol. SWIM's favorite way to abuse Adderall XR is to just open a cap in your mouth and chew up the balls and drink water. You get double the dose and it hits you within 5-10 minutes. And are you sure it's Dexedrine Spansule? SWIM has read of it called many different names, well Dexedrine ER and Dexedrine Spansule. SWIM also believes his doctor prescribes XR because with no generic to it Shire can make more money by having doctors only prescribe XR with no alternative so Shire sends free stuff to SWIM's doctor. SWIM goes in for his Adderall refil in a little less than 2 weeks. Wish SWIM luck |

Re: Generic Adderall XR?
Just a FYI if swiy insurance does not cover Vyvanse and use up your first 30 day free trail, then you are looking at about $150 for a 30 supply
