Will the pharmacy fill it? Doc said they would....

But, SWIM's not sure. SWIM has been legally taking Adderall30mg a day and his doc just upped his dose to 40mg a day. Since Adderall is a Schedule II controlled substance (something like that), you can't fill it until 30 days (which would be June 3rd). Now, SWIM's doctor gave him a script dated for May 27th to be filled (becaue SWIM would run out of Adderall since the dose has been upped), and his doc. said they should fill it because it shows the dose has been upped. Does anyone know if the pharmacy will fill this script for May 27th, or would they make SWIM wait until the 30 days are up (June 3rd). SWIM has just been having doubts that they might not fill it, and if that is so, SWIM would experience some withdrawal. Do any SWIMers know if the pharmacy would fill SWIM's script? or make him wait?

If your doctor said they would fill the prescription it's the doctor's fault if they don't, you are simply following directions. There's no reason you could get in trouble for this according to the information you gave.

It doesn't matter when the last one was written, if the dosage has changed, they should fill it. SWIY could've filled his other prescription last week and they should still fill a new dosage. At least, that's been my experience.

SWIM thanks SWIY's alot. Other forums, people said they they wouldn't fill it. So, there's no doubt in SWIY's mind that they will fill it? Just because its a schedule II controlled substance and all and they're really up tight about filling that stuff.

I hate to break it to you, but there are a lot of prescription drugs that are scheduled substances. This just means they're illegal if you DON'T have a prescription, which you do. So No worries. The pharmacy will notice he dose changed and will fill the script no problem.

Swapping pharmacies and filling Schedule II prescriptions is a good way to invite suspicion. If this is legal for you to have, then fill the thing and be done with it. If not - then SWIM should call a lawyer.

Re: Will the pharmacy fill it? Doc said they would....

My panda hasn't had a problem with filling a script less than 30 days after he last filled it, even when the dose staid the same. He would go to his psych appointment, get the script, take it to the pharmacy the same day, and then get it filled. No problems, and doubt there would be unless script was brought in before the date it has written on it.

True, it is a good way to invite suspicion, but if the prescription is legit there are a ton of reasons SWIY would be visiting a different pharmacy from being more convenient to having a bad experience...etc..

SWIM visits many different pharmacies (always with legit scripts), but he has many in close proximity to his house (at least 5 within 1.5miles)

Re: Will the pharmacy fill it? Doc said they would....

Just one more thing, SWIM apolagizes. Even though, SWIM would have enough adderall (well he should have enough) to last him till May 29th (even with the increased dosage), the pharmacy should still fill his script on May 27th (the date the script was written for) because it shows an increased dosage? So they won't be like "you'll have to come back on the 29th because that's when you'll run out"?

just go by whatever is written by the doctor. The establishment will never expect patients to think for themselves, thereby accepting the blame or responsibility for a mistake.

i went overseas one time for a month and we had to get more a week before i left and the prescription hadnt run out yet. Also especially since the prescription is up they should...because it will probably be filed differently and wont see the other prescription refill date.

I've had a similar experience with ambien, the pharmacy refilled a prescription very early because I was leaving town (can't remember if I had to provide my itinerary or not). With adderall, though, refills are not allowed, so they would only be able to see past fill dates, which they wouldn't really care unless it's ridiculously early (>10 days early), and then they'd probably call the doctor to confirm before telling you no.

Actually I believe you can have refills on Adderall. It all depends on what state you are in.

Postdated prescriptions are allowed (for up to a 90-day supply, I believe), but no refills are allowed for schedule II controlled substances in any of the United States. See the wikipedia entry schedule II drugs (subsection of Controlled Substance Act) for more information. Yeah that page confirms the 90-day supply with postdated 'scripts.

Nothing like wikipedia to prove a medical point, haha!! I wouldnt doubt it if the doctors themselves wikipedia stuff behind their office doors, lol......

pharmd2011: Because of your username, im assuming your either in pharmacy shcool or going into one.....The people with controlled rx's are gonna love you

Heres whats gonna happen, the insurance company is gonna deny the claim with a "refill too soon" rejection code.... Tell the pharmacist the deal, he'll call the office to verify if he is suspicious of anything... The pharmacy is going to have to call your provide and ask for an override and you'll have your meds

TheFonz added 4 Minutes and 43 Seconds later...

just a side note, These things happen more than you think, ESPECIALLY with benzos and pain meds and insurance companies pay... So let the pharmacist intimidate you if he's being a punk.

Just dont make it a habit, ya know?

?

Wikipedia was for farther information; it contains links to other resources if you don't trust wikipedia, or there's always google, but all I meant was to clarify... I suppose I should elaborate:

I know that pharmacies will (sometimes?) accept post-dated prescriptions and the pharmacist may just refer to them as "refills", especially if the customer has actual refills on other medication, so as to not cause any confusion. I thought this might've been the case with pharmd2011. Either way, doctors are not allowed to write refills for schedule II substances, it's not simply a "general rule" in the same way maximum doses are a general rule (well, really I believe such is referred to as the "FDA maximum recommended dose for daily human consumption").

Handing over a prescription for a schedule II substance marked for refills should prompt the pharmacist to contact the doctor's office (because it is more than likely a forged prescription), and if the doctor confirms that he indeed wrote the prescription for refills, the pharmacist will explain that it cannot be authorized. Then, I don't know if that's enough to fill the prescription without any refills indicated, or if the doctor has to rewrite a non-refillable prescription, but this is really beside the point.

The insurance should not deny filling a new strength, especially with the code "refill too soon" because it's not a refill; it's a new prescription. Multiple prescriptions for dates considerably early, for the same strength of Adderall would probably start setting off flags.
