Too far? Worried about excessive polydrug use

SWIM isbeginning to think that his drug-taking/use is getting out of control, or... out of his own control. He ispretty strong minded buthe feelshe hasbeen doing wayy too much.

SWIMhasbeen smoking canabis for about 4 years now.. not much.. just here and there - never been a big fan of getting completely stoned! He's 19 at the moment going on 20 this year. Anyhow, he has only really started getting into serious drugs for the last 7 months or so, started by doing a few lines of coke at a friends house and then doing it at clubs and such, SWIM is also a big drinker and has been drinking since he was 13. After a heavy heavy night on the town SWIM got invited to a house party, he had only done a few lines of coke up to this night where he got offered to take some speed andtook a gram.

SWIM couldnt belive how good it felt to not want to stop talking shit and couldnt sit down all night and helped a guy smoke all his weed in a matter of something to do. It's now 7 months since the day he took speed and hasnt done any since but as the time has gone by he's been getting into more and more heavier drugs, ecstacy has been a favourite for the last 5 months, and if it hasnt been xtc it's cocaine at the weekend, SWIM has only had 2 weeks totally off the drugs for the last7 months and is worried that he can't get a drip of reality anymore and that the drug taking has gone way to far.

Over the last 4 weeks he has been smoking heroin, SWIM doesnt touch any drugs in the week, but once friday night comes round it's like friday - sunday he goes mad on everything, for example.. this friday night at a house he done lots of cocaine, drank quite a bit and smoked some strong skunk, slept 3 hours that night and come saturday night he resisted getting any H which was a good thing but he decided to get completely out his tree by drinking himself stupid, getting stoned.. taking a big line of coke and sniffing a load of poppers.. It's really the cocktails of drugs that he is beginning to worry about. Last week for example was a good hit of heroin, a gram of cocaine and alcohol, Swim says he feels that he needs to get off theall the drugsbefore he finds himself messing his life up, he already says sometimes he doesnt know what reality is and feels he's living in a dream world.

Sorry for the long post, Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're starting to feel like you're doing too much then chances are that you probably are.

Try going a few weeks without doing anything & just say you're
getting drug tested as an excuse if anyone gives you shit about it.

SWIM has tried quitting a few times, 2 weeks being the longest stretch without it, although finds it impossible to stop using without drinking alcohol, which makes the need for the use seem even worse.

Swim has found pot to be very helpful. Whenever she gets
carried away with anything else, she just starts smoking huge amounts
of pot because she can easily control that and eventually wind down to
smoking a little bit once a week, which is pretty damn close to being
sober.</font>

completely cut out the drugs and search why you are taking them in the
first place...once you figure that out (don't settle for the just
cause) it will get much easier to stay away from those things. Also
this sounds silly but it will help, EXERCISE! Trust me nothing helps
better with drug problems than a good diet and exercise.

Yeah, working out creates endorphins which kind of give you a 'natural high'.</font>

Swims story sounds very similar to someone i know

In a short time took a large cocktail of drugs, basically wanted to smash into oblivion, not experience one drug in particular. It honestly sounds to me like you have problems you are covering up with drugs. Stop dead for 2 weeks, if you can't, ask yourself why and get counselling, and advice.

19, sound like you should get into a new crowd now, do it early, in the next few years you will be in a new crowd anyway. 19 is the age where every seems to be dissapearing or dropping dead, even going to jail. Alcohol increases yearning for other drugs, simply because everyone has fond memories here and there of being drunk at a party or inspiring event, whilst drunk one feels he can reach that state once more and get that euphoria again if it is mixed with other drugs, and the combo usualy does the trick

Well, SWIM is now off the heroin, hasn't gone back for about 2 months. xtc has played a big part... It was kinda stange because he hadn't done any ecstacy for a month and was doing heroin every weekend instead (smoking).

Around about a month ago SWIM got hold of some ecstacy (been off it for 28 days) and done a couple of pills that night and was blown away. Hasn't gone back to heroin since and has been doing pills once a fortnight and not really touched any cocaine, a line here and there but nothing major. This weekend is his weekend off the pills and then doing some again the following weekend and then is going to take a month or so break.

Life is getting better for SWIM
