Swim very distintivelly remembers reading placebo's take eleboration/ compilation of worlocks and chemmans to of stated 150degrees and metheads push/pull method to of stated starts cooking at 150 and not to let it go beyond 180. No idea of the refference units tho but swim thinks degrees celecius was the notation. Its not a major issue as one could easily convert and try at centigrade or farenhieght how ever its spelt and if nothing happend bang it to celcius

Re: Correct Temperature

reaction (% increase) == time * temp
cold method required more time

Re: Correct Temperature

it really depends what kind of rxn are you doing
are you doing a reflux or a push pull
dry? wet?
alittle more info would be great
towards the end of a reflux it is good to increase the temperature for best yeilds the temp of a reflux should not exceed 145C in my opinion as higher temperatures lead to aziridines and iodo intermedeates...sorry for the spelling

a push pull or dry rxn will requre higher temperatures as it will not have water something funny about the rnx a by product is water and P2P go wonder

Re: Correct Temperature

Hi thanks for your replies swim was thinking of a wet push pull using 12grams pfed, 12grams iodine, 12grams matchbook RP In a 500ml flask.

Swim has also read placebos tec this where most of confusion stems from as no unit given swim just trying to clarify out of intrest

Also any idea of aprox time to go to completion would be helpfull swim belives that contents of flask should grow rapidly to fill volume of flask then contract again when reaction is complete. After this flask should be removed from heat is this correct.

Wet = Addition of distilled water to Rp/I2/E reaction flask? OR acetic acid? Sorry this was something that never fully sunk in and since its already in the thread no harm in asking. As a ratio 0.4 to 0.7? (sorry swim will most likely never attemt such things for the legal reasons but the theory behind it all is very interesting)

Also on that note swim was also unsure when steam distilation was used after the reaction is the steam introduced in the meth/lye vessell or the fluids inside the vessell and then reheated and distilled?
