"Pap. Rhoeas, Pap. Argemone, Humulus Lupus (Hops) **** - there are conflicting reports about thiss , and one researcher reported that it was found in Eschazolica California . **** - I believe what they detected in Eschazolica was a fentanyl matrix, I am at a loss to explain the conflicting reports on humulus lupus, one urban legend used to state that one could distill Amschstel Stout to obtain a type of opium. I;ve been informed that there are other such legends in other locales as well " Thats what i found. the cali poppy isnt there, so i fear ... but maybe someone else here knows more about this |

Opium has to be harvested at the right time, and in
the right way. Soon after the flower pettals off, the crown on top of the pod will begin turning upward. When the crown is flat (or perhaps shortly after flat) the pod is ripe for harvest. The chamber that holds the opium is very narrow. Slice too deep and the opium will bleed back into the pod. When slicing the pod, do not make the blade depth much more than 1 mm. A cutting tool can be made using a set of exacto-knife blades and a cork. Push two or three of the blades through the cork until they protrude out the oposite end just far enough to make reasonable cutting depth. One draw of the cutting tool will make 2-3 cuts. Allow at least several hours for the pod to bleed. 6+ hours best. Opium should be left to dry & harden before use. |

just plant some papver somniferums along with your california poppies, they look the same and no one will know the difference. In my opinion the Persian White seeds are the best and produce a beautiful flower also a large pod with lots of O. You can buy them from lots of places on the net for really cheap. In my opinion California Poppy's are useless for getting opium from them, as a matter of fact the only use I see them as is a tall flower that is pretty. I mean, come on, you can buy the extract at GNC. They sell a product there called "California Poppy Plus" made by a company called "Basic Organics". Which is the california poppy extract mixed with some B vitamins and such. I bought a bottle of this stuff and took a few pills, they didnt do shit for me. I figured as much since they sold the stuff at GNC. Stick with P. Somniferum poppies. That's really where it's at...

Californian poppies do not contain morphine, or any opiates at all. They do contain some releated alkoloids which have a sedative effect, but they are not recreational in any way. I have found this plant to be a decent sleeping aid, although mild.

small, orange, and have a very slender pod, could not be mistaken for somniferums. On the other hand oriental poppies do look similar to the untrained eye..... |

Re: california poppy
Absolutely no recreational value to this then?
Shame, I was in a health food store today and I burst out laughing when I saw a bottle that said "tincture of poppy". Between the dopey laughter and the way I grabbed the bottle I must have looked like a bit of a junkie lol. I've got the moves. |

Re: california poppy
Not only do california poppies not contain any opiates, they're not even a real species of poppy. They look incredibly different from every single other species of poppy which have a little pod with a crown on top and the seeds inside. The california poppy grows into a long bean with much bigger seeds inside. Pretty flower but no real use.

Re: california poppy
The only poppy which produces opiates is Papaver Somniferum. Californian Poppy is Eschscholzia californica and contains no opiate alkaloids. In fact the only other poppy other than Papaver S which does produce an "opiate alkaloid" is "Flanders Poppy" (Papaver Rhoeas) which contains TRACE amounts of Papaverine, which is basically useless in small quantities and a bit toxic in larger quantities.
hope that has helped. |
