On Focalin? How get Dexedrine?

Hi, Swim is 18. Swim has had ADHD since he was in 4th grade. First Swim took ritalin, than concerta, than straterra, then concerta again, then decided on Focalin.
Swim has had Focalin for about a year now. Swim has had severe distraction problems, reported them to his doctor, and alls his doctor did was change from 20mg of Focalin to 30mg (2x15mg) of Focalin.
Swim wants dexedrine.
Swim's mother goes to appointments with him.
How can Swim get his doctor to give him Dexedrine?

seems like SWIY's doctor doesn't prescribe amphetamines. Going to a different doctor would be the best bet. Ask around to find out what doctors prescribe them. SWIM lucked out because one of the first things her doctor said was "I've found that Dexedrine is the best treatment for ADHD"

Did the increase in dosage help with distraction? If there are no other side effects, why change medications? Also, why does SWIY let his mother go with him? at 18, I don't think that's very productive for therapy...

Well, Swim has his mother go with because he thinks that if his mother backs him up, it is easier for him to get different medications, at least that is what swim heard. She feels the need to go anyways so Swim let's her.
Swim wants dex because Focalin won't do anything except keep him alert, awake, calms down, and loss of appetite. All the normal stuff.
Swim needs something to make him high. He heard Dex is great for that.

I would advise SWIY to take some serious consideration as to whether this is really more important than treating his ADHD.

For the purpose of information, though, SWIY's doctor would likely start considering other medications (and it sounds like the amphetamine-based ones are some of the only options left...) if Focalin was not treating the symptoms, and increasing the dose only brought on side effects that SWIY cannot stand (not necessarily immediately harmful, but irritating and interfering with SWIY's daily life, e.g. stomach sickness, light-headedness, tiredness).

Lying to SWIY's doctor may very well come back to bite SWIY in the ass.

SWIM is prescribed adderall, and has had much success tweaking dose, and medication types to best treat his ADHD. His doctor trusts him and he trusts his doctor. This is the most important part of prescribed medications. SWIM suggests that SWIY explain to your doctor how your current medication is debilitating SWIY more than it is helping SWIY, and SWIY would like to know if there are any other medications that might be able to treat SWIY situation better.

as a further note AlienLinux, this forum is for harm reduction, and discussing how to "get meds from a doctor to get high" is off limits. I hope SWIY can appreciate this, and will refrain from such posts in the future.

Swim went to see his doctor.
His doctor prescribed Adderall XR.
He wouldn't prescribe Dexedrine because that is immediate release, and Swim needs extended release for his ADHD.
Adderall XR is good enough, though.

Extended release versions of dexedrine certainly exist. But it sounds like you're happy with Adderall, congrats.

Oh, Swim guesses he just misunderstood.
Does Desoxyn have extended release.
Swim remembers his doctor saying it isn't prescribed "a lot" because it is immediate release.
Oh well, Swim wouldn't want them anyways because they come in little 5mg tablets. Not much (is it?)

The reason it is 5mg because it is very potent. It is 100% pure methamphetamine as opposed to amphetamine salts like adderall. Glad to hear your ADHD symptoms have been taken care of, SWIM wishes the same could happen to him.

Swim is well aware of why Desoxyn pills are so tiny. It's perfectly obvious if you know even a small amount about meth. What Swim is trying to say is that he wouldn't want them because if he ever wants/needs to get off drugs, that would definitely be a difficult one (understatement). Well now that Swim thinks about it that has nothing to do with the size. The reason Swim doesn't want them because of the size is because he'd be going through a lot of bottles (dollars) for the rush.
Swim very well might be wrong. Is he?

Oh! Here is some info on why Swim's doctor was trying all of the Methylphenadate (and Dexmethylphenadate [did he spell that right?]) medication before Amphetamine. Swim's brother is also ADHD. He has more hyperactivity issues, I have more attention issues. Anyways, when Swim's brother was maybe about 7 Swim's doctor put him on Adderall. According to Swim's mother, it made him extremely hyper. Swim's brother says it turned him into a Schiz (overexageration). So Swim's doctor was trying to see if Methylphenadate meds would work first.

I always have problems with my doctor giving me more of the dosage. My mom actually switched me off my doctor cause he wanted to give me more then the legal dosage. I find concerta most effective in my case. Ritalin always makes me EXTREMELY easy to anger. I feel like punching someone if they just talk to me it makes me go crazy.

Hi,

I've had ADHD, since it was called "minimal brain dysfunction", and ADD. (Since the age of 6) I'm 34 now. Currently I take between 5-25 mg. of Dexedrine (dextroamphetamines) a day. I've been on almost all the psychostimulants, over the years. I've found that without appearing "drug seeking" you can almost get whatever you want from a psychiatrist (at least here in the USA). At one time in my life I was using Cocaine quite regularly, but it never got me "high". I found it focused my attention, and made me feel "normal". THat what led to me using it on a regular basis. (I was not addicted, however) I described that very scenario to my family doctor (who initially prescribed the Ritalin I was on for 20 some odd years) and he suggested I speak to a psychiatrist because they are the only M.D.'s allowed to prescibe amphetamines here in the US. I did just that, started a trial of Dexidrine, and it has worked out wonderfully. I happen to also be a professional in the mental health field, so my doctor allows me leeway to adjust my dosage accordingly. One word of caution howerver is that Dex is extremely habit forming, and a tolerance develops rather quickly. Make an informed decision before looking to switch meds. Arm yourself with knowledge, and you can go wrong.

Amen to that re: dex being habit forming, SWIM has been on and off them since the age of 14 (he's now 27) and he hardly ever uses them properly, he's more likely to have lots of them for cram study sessions which he finds the most efective way (for him) to retain information.
SWIM is an all or nothing kinda person he just can't study 2hrs a day every day, he's rather chill during the week then study non stop for 48+hrs... he's learnt that way for ages and it works a treat, be careful though cos sometimes one can go borderline psychotic doing this.
SWIM has been a speed addict for years and finds a dexedrine script to be a godsend, he dosent have to resort to meth or shit street speed which is unhealthy and expensive.
Many doctors, even psychiatrists won't prescribe any drug that has the potential for addiction, or that are habit forming. In SWIMs opinion these proffessionals are poor excuses for dr's... the fact remains that dexedrine is probably the most effective medecine for treating ADHD... you can't argue with results. If your doctor won't give you what you need FIND A BETTER ONE, after all you are paying them upwards of $160 p/h remember they're working for you.
Regarding getting dex in England I think the SWIY that asked that may be at a loss... they just won't prescribe it at all. It's a bit like Australia (where swim is from) stance on desoxyn... it's recognised for it's therapuetic abilities but will never be prescribed here. Too much fear and anti meth propaganda floating around.
SWIM's surprised that it's prescribed in the US but figures it has been doing the rounds in medical circles for longer than the anti meth propaganda has been.
