Tripping out on LSD (Youtube Video)
Hey guy's I just finished editing an LSD music video of sorts, found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npDW0lQF1S4 Anyway it was done as an animatic for a short film I'm working on, (mock-up/storyboard) a basic rough idea of some things I want to see during a scene depicting a character who is feeling the effects of LSD for the first time. I think it turned out pretty cool, but I need some input from real LSD enthusiast like you guys. The images are supposed to depict this guy's journey, but in a cinematic way. That is to say not 100% true to the reality of what it's actually like to be tripping on LSD... Or if you feel like maybe I should do it that way, keep it more realistic I mean, please let me know... I'm looking for any input I can get from you guys on how this scene should be handled. And yes the animatic has some copyrighted image's from the film Heavy Metal, like I said this is just an animatic not generated for distribution. Thanks a bunch guys, look forward to your input. |

Re: Tripping out on LSD (Youtube Video)
It honestly seems a little clichéd but that may not be so bad a thing depending on your audience. The choice of track is also a little off. "Born Slippy" was inspired by a night of very heavy drinking resulting in sickness and delirium (although many attribute it to ecstasy because of its beat).

If you have any suggestions as to what should be included in the visual or auditory canvas please share. SWIM? has limited experience with Hallucinogens and he has none in fact with LSD. Also Born Slippy is the song choice the rights are cheap enough for us to nab up, and personally I think the song rocks. Thanks again. |

Re: Tripping out on LSD (Youtube Video)
I think it's pretty cool. Just one comment: Near the beginning of the video, the voice says, "It is in the nature of the goal that it lies outside that which it is the goal of." This strikes me as a very "non-LSD" thing to say. LSD promotes an understanding of unity - an understanding that all is one, and that boundaries / separations between things are just illusory.
So it would be a lot more consistent with the LSD experience to say something like, "The goal itself is the same as that which it is the goal of", i.e., pretty much the opposite of what the voice is saying now. I am not familiar with the "Born Slippy" song, so I don't know if the voice is part of the song or something that you added. |

Re: Tripping out on LSD (Youtube Video)
Well I liked the video. But Art should say something or transmit a feeling. I was unclear in the video actually way you were trying to say. I seem not to come out of watching the video feeling deeply in any manner. So I am unclear what the message of the video is. But I liked the visuals of the video. The "turn on, tune in drop out" statement I think does not add to the attainment of transmitting a users perception of LSD. In fact when Leary said it he was not talking about LSD or drugs at all. I would invite you to go to youtube and search for videos made by Leary. They are on there. One is called "How to operate your brain". Another is called "liquid mind". Another is "Divinity lies within". You can search them as I cannot post them here.
In any event I really liked what you have done. It is very professional and cool. Just consider what I have said. One more thing to add. In the video the question is asked as to what is beyond the universe. Well that might be a question a person was trying to answer that made them take LSD. But it is not a question that one wouold generally ask while on it. LSD is such a powerful experience that one is not usually asking questions but experiencing reality in a different way. Perhaps getting answers to questions already asked. Lsd is not drug you use to sit around an muse about the nature of reality. That is for a glass of wine and perhaps a draw of the pipe. LSD causes you to experience reality differently and musing about what happened is something you do in retrospect. In order to do what you are trying to do one would either have to take LSD and have a deep experience or at least deeply study individual accounts of others experiences with it and their feelings of what happened. I will offer what I consider my peak experience while dreaming I was on LSD. I said. As soon as I did it I was instantly shooting through the universe not bound by time or space. I also remember being in a state of pure mental orgasm. I could see generations upon infinite generations both backwards in time for infinity and forwards in infinity. There was no such thing as time. It is in this story. http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56104 In the story pretty much the rest besides the peak experience illustrates the Chaos of LSD. Another one I wrote dealt with mushrooms but it really does not matter. IT might help you feel something. http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56309 And finally. To learn about how to swim it is of great benefit to talk to the folks sitting on their louge chairs sunning after they have gotton out of the pool. But one will not really understand swimming until they have actually gotton into the water themselves. Last edited by Lobsang; 16-05-2008 at 17:38. |
