mdma death?

I was just looking through www.erowid.com section on MDMA effects and came across this. "small risk of death. Approximately 2 per 100,000 users have extreme negative reactions resulting in death. (rare)"

I was wondering if anyone else has heard this before?

Re: mdma death?

"these numbers came from 3 different sources and were official government stats on deaths and emergency room visits. Here are some numbers per 100,000 people to make it more reflective.

0.796 visits per 100,000 users a year for caffeine
13.3 visits per 100,000 users of steroids (remember these are almost all related to infections)
9.64 visits per 100,000 users of alcohol
1.91 visits per 100,000 users of tylenol
25.001 visits per 100,000 users of cocaine
89.9 users per 100,000 die from smoking each year"

OMFG run to the nearest drug store and burn the all the acetaminophen... Its as deadly as ecstasy.

Edit: Swibf realized the statistics don't equate to the same thing measured, but he's trying to indicate that statistics are only as valuable as the manner in which they are interpreted.

Re: mdma death?

thats obviousely VERY rare though. and bean fondler just showed that MDMA is even less likely to cause a problem than other substances. if SWIY are realy worried just start off with half a pill and work SWIY way up. and make sure SWIyou have friends there to help swiy in case anything goes wrong.

SWIM says try not to worry about something when the statistic itself shows the incidence of that happening is very rare.

Re: mdma death?

Only real danger with MDMA is dehydration, overhydration and other substances in SWIM's pill.

If SWIM's informed, responsible and sticks to pure MDMA powder then it's an extremely safe drug.

Re: mdma death?

That falls under the allergic reaction type death similar to the girl in Italy about a month ago.

Re: mdma death?

Anyone want to weigh in on what it would feel like to be having a bad, possibly allergic reaction?

SWIM knows that sometimes people get into scary situations with alcohol and recreational drugs, and they only appear life-threatening at the time because of lack of knowledge and experience. Similarly, something life-threatening may NOT appear so because of lack of knowledge and experience.

When is it time to call an ambulance?

Re: mdma death?

There's a lot of posts on this forum that say things like "oh, I guess we should ban Tylenol, too" or "The pill must have not been pure" or etc.

I think it would be a more conducive discussion to acknowledge that one is taking a risk if one decides to take MDMA, whether from a severe reaction to the drug itself because of an allergy/another biological reason (there is no denying that recreational drugs produce varying effects on different people), or because one may not receive a pure pill, and then discuss how to avoid and recognize the situation. That is, rather than being flippant and dismissing a valid concern.

I wanted to say that in my last post, but had to run off. So here it is.

swim would agree with that statement. of course there is a risk. but swiy has to keep in mind that with that "play it safe" mentality, swiy has to aknowledge that EVERYTHING has a risk. you can get botulism for canned food, swiy could be a victim of the next E coli outbreak. food poising from some bad meat, a very rare allergic to OTC allergy meds. etc. MDMA resulting in a sudden death is even rarer than most of the examples swim just listed. there is a risk in taking MDMA. but there is also a risk in absolutely everything you do. the only reason MDMA gets more attention to its risk is because its an illegal drug. but you are more likely to get hurt from a daily activity. and thats a fact.

Re: mdma death?

That kind of thing is discussed! Alot of members feel the only safe way to take E is when a testing kit has been used, and such advise is given quite frequently.
While the chance of allergic reaction is there, its rather slim, and any responsible user will take a test dose below the active level of any substance new to their system to check for bad reactions. Taking these small precautions really cuts down the risk a fair bit.
