So, hypothetical situation: a person has smoked pot for the first few times recently. Has always been interested in trying E. This person's experience smoking pot (even only one or two hits from a bong) was not good. Basically, this person experienced an intense "dreamy" feeling (he constantly thought everything was a hallucination, even though it was not, which frightened him). This was accompanied by intense paranoia and anxiety attacks (extremely elevated heart rate accompanied by fear). The first time, this person did not handle these feelings well and reportedly "freaked out." The second and third times, although the feelings repeated themselves, this person continually assured himself that everything was real, stayed calm and took deep breaths, and waited it out. Friends reported an elevated heart beat the second time, but otherwise he only acted a little high, or very relaxed.

Friends tell him that trying a more hardcore drug - especially a hallucinogen - is probably a bad idea because he seems so prone to anxiety attacks. He seems like a "bad tripper." Is it in this person's best interests to stay away from E, because his experience with pot indicates that he will have a "bad trip"? Or would it be reasonable for this person to try E, in a very small dose, in a comfortable environment with close, sober friends?

The effects for said friend are normal for marijuana honestly. SWIM reports the same effects minus the anxiety portion, so feel free to pass the knowledge along that your friend isn't getting something strange and abnormally different than everyone else from weed.

Secondly, assuming safe reputable pills can be found, ecstasy is a very forgiving thing. It's quite hard to freak out on if one is smart. One pill should be all that is necessary for a first time, anyone that recommends more is used to abusing their body. Most people who freak out on ecstasy either have very impure pills, or too more than was necessary.

Overall it seems like it would be a very positive experience given the setting described "in a very small dose, in a comfortable environment with close, sober friends" only it would be more fun if they were on E as well. It would not be so much fun to be the only one. While on E, you will seek out comradery and people going through the same thing, it really has a social drive. It would be great to chill in a friend's basement and drop E with friends.

SWIM knows the feeling of being in a dream. he hates it, and leaves him confused. however MDMA or a pill with good purity shouldnt have psychedelics effects or any types of hallucinations. and it should leave a person confused considering it is a stimulant. SWIM would reccommend to this friend that he start out low and work his way up. maybe starting out at even half a pill would be a good idea. just as a starting point.

As long as your friend is SURE about the good quality of the X/mdma swim believes he can go for it without worrying.
Swim himself has experienced not-well feelings with weed and ash and would never - for example - take lsd/hallucinogens again since he had the worst fuckin pain of his life while on Psilocybin mushrooms.
That said, he loves to roll. The "bad-trip" thing your friend worries about is related to hallucinogens and not to X - if of course done with good sense:
1 pill or even half is enough for the first time and he has to stay hydrated.
X is not unpredictable as hallucinogens: if it's good it goes only in the right direction and it's the best fuckin sensation ever.

MDMA isn't a hallucinogene but it alterns your perception and mind so it can give you something like a "bad trip" - now I mean those anxiety attacks. Maybe X is not unpredictable but human mind/reaction is still..

All the above is great advice. SWIF himself hated the effects of cannabis, made him feel uncomfortable and rushy in a not very nice way but SWIF loved ecstasy. as the others have said assuming you get real MDMA or a good ecstasy pill then most likely SWIY will have the time of his life, Ive still yet to meet someone who didnt enjoy ecstasy.
