Kratom: Long term storage, shelf life and efficacy

after a recent back injury and having nothing for the pain, it occurred to me that it might not be such a bad idea to store some kratom long term incase I ever hurt myself again and find myself in a similar situation.

I guess my question(s) is this,

How long can kratom be stored and still be effective? How many years?
is it UV sensitive?
would vacuum storage provide a means of effective long term storage?

Just a general idea,

Thanks all

Re: long term storage/shelf life and efficacy

A quick Google search turned up a couple statements that it can last up to a year, but it probably depends a lot on the type. I'd say you have the right idea with a vacuum sealer. I suppose it's the same as storing tea - airtight, opaque container, moderate temperature, etc. Let us know if you find anything conclusive.

Re: long term storage/shelf life and efficacy

my search found a secondhand quoted reference from Daniel Siebert stating that kratom can be stored for "several decades" in a airtight/air-feee container located in a cool dry place out of any UV light. This without any loss of potency.

Another post wisely recomends storing your kratom in small batches so you wont keep reopening your stash and reintroducing air and moisture which could lead to mold

The small batches is a good idea but wouldnt it be introduced to the same amount of air and moisture by the time you seperate them and so on? Wouldnt more surface area be exposed at the same time incompare to a small surface area when opening the stash as a whole?

If you have say a 100 gram bag and you use 2 grms twice a day you will open that bag 50 times. If you split it into fourths each bag will last 6 days with no need to open and expose the other 3/4 of your stash.

With that idea, it might work to keep it in an airtight container in individual capsules. Well, convenient anyway.

For Air tight storage? any kind of freezer bags should work. Ive seen these freezer bags made by some corp. like glad or ziplock that are disposable and come with a battery powered vacuum wand thing that sucks the air out of there special made bags. I cant remember the price but i dont think it was expensive with stuff like that you tend to get what you pay for though so its probably not great quality. You can always use tupperware.

Arent those too big? SWIM was thinking about an oz or half an oz in each bag swim never saw vacuum sealed zip locks that small, but swim will look for it next time she visits the supermarket. Unless their supposed to be bigger? Does swiy just transfer it using a spoon?

It doesnt matter what you transfer it with. If you are storing smaller quanities then you can use a sandwich ziplock bag and suck out the air with your mouth or get a vacuum sealer and you can use it to store kratom and save money buying in bulk and storing it in the freezer or so the infomercial says.

Re: Kratom: Long term storage, shelf life and efficacy

SWIM has some kratom recently unearthed a couple of years old. Dark in ziploc at room temp and pretty much the same as when bought.
Any people appreciate loss of potency when stored in this fashion ? SWIM is curious if anyone has. When SWIM finishes backstock SWIM plans another stocpile..
