Home Office Cannabis Potency Study

In late 2007, 23 Police Forces in England and Wales participated in the study. Forces were requested to submit samples confiscated from street-level users.

They break down the cannabis tested into three groups:

• sinsemilla - which they seem to define as "been grown indoors from selected seed varieties and propagation of female plant cuttings using artificial lighting, heating, and control of day-length"
• Traditional Herbal - Which they define as "herbal cannabis imported into the UK (traditionally from the Caribbean, West Africa and Asia). It is often seen in the form of compressed brown vegetable matter containing seeds and stalks."
• cannabis resin (no further breakdown here).

Now whatever you may think of their classification, it makes interesting reading in terms of the results.

It seems bizarre that they left out organic cannabis, the kind hippies grow out in Cornwall. I guess not a lot of these people get caught seeing as it isn't a huge industry or anything. Cannabis resin needs to be broken down further. There's a huge difference between soapbar and proper hashish brought from somewhere like Morocco or Lebanon.

To be fair, they do actually mention that too (but it does not have to be grown indoors to be that).

In answer to NB's comment on organicically grown, they had a total of 2914 samples taken from the 23 police forces. Of these, 2352 were herbal, 445 were resin and 117 were classified as Other (indeterminate or not cannabis). SWILL is guessing that if any organic was seized that it would have just been lumped in with the herbal category (given their classification).
