Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
First of all, please limit your post to a single thread. Spreading out your question across several threads will only create disparate, non-conversational answers of little value, as well as implicate DaFuZzMaStA as a posting nuisance. I know a situation like this can be very difficult, but help us help you.
Now, onto the situation. First of all, how are you so sure she has taken LSD? Could it have possible been another chemical? Amphetamines have a higher propensity for the induction of psychosis, and their place in some research chemicals may increase this likelihood. What happened at the hospital? How did she arrive there? What did the bad trip entail? Violent episodes? Delusional interpretations of hallucinations? Please expand. Your friend could have any multitude of pre-existing psychological disorders to which psychedelic experiences may occasionally act as catalysts. Has she been on medication? Diagnosed with a psychiatric illness? The only advice I can give now is, give her all the care you can. Keep trying to feed her and get her rest, maybe even put on some mild-cartoons to distract her. She is most likely not in a place to address the trip at the moment and may never, but pushing her for an explanation or showing her how worried you are will do anything but benefit her. Please provide a more detailed question to elicit a more detailed response. I wish you and her the best of luck. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
Sorry for the nuisance man,
Swim was with her. It was LSD on a blotter paper, and only two other drugs are active at that small of a dose. DOM, which tastes bitter and takes 3-4 hours to kick in, and lasts 40 hours. and an opiate. swi us done this acid every weekend for the past month, and it's deffinetly neither of those. The bad trip, she was worreid swim was going to see some girl, and swim was worreid about her. When we confronted each other. she was on 4 hits of double dip swim was on 5, . We couldn't communicate, so we had a bad trip about it and i tried to calm her down all night and the next day. She thought i had staged teh whole thing. And keeps saying she loves me, and then she doesn't. And telling her mom and me all the things she feels guilty about and how amazing we are. She is unsure if eating and drinking is the 'right thing to do' or not. She wouldn't shower at first because she didn't think it could clean her soul It's like a huge delerius guilt trip with paranoia mixed in, and anxiety, she cant stop tapping her leg and hand. we tried to get her to eat and sleep but it only worked a bit, so we took her to the hospital yesterday. we waited for 5 hours, the doctor said her vitals were fine, he sent a psychiatrist and she said that it would be best to wait a few days before she was analyzed the doctor gave her parents lorazepam to help her fall asleeplast night, but they couldn't convince her to take it she's never been on medication or diagnosed with any psychological disorders. anxiety runs in her family, but she usually doesn't have it badly. its hard i dont think her parents understand that just trying to explain everything to her i going to work. they need to convince her to eat no matter what it takes, ad get her to relax her mind and focus on something else |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
It could certainly be a magnification of previously underlying anxiety. Perhaps she is going through a period of cleansing, admitting and relinquishing herself of her perceived sins and guilt. While this may not seem conventional, or by most standards a modern, healthy psychological practice, cathartic psychedelic experiences have been used by troubled human beings for many many hundreds of years, with great success. It sounds like swiy and her were taking relatively high doses, to the point of incapacitated communicative facilities. 4 hits of 'double dip' (widely considered a myth...) seems like a very high dose, especially for someone with a family history of anxiety who 'usually doesnt have it that badly' (but still shows symptoms). The lorazepam or other benzodiazepines could help quell her anxiety during the reintegration period she is most likely experiencing. Give her more time, and let her try to work things out on her own. Also, just to clarify, DOM has a duration of around 20 hours (not 40), even in relatively high doses.

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
With an active dose of 200ug, br-Dfly could most certainly fit on a blotter and has been seen in such a state.
Please let us know how her meeting with the doctor goes. Also, look in the file archive for a MAPS video called, "Working With Difficult Psychedelic Experiences". It should be of some help in this situation. Good luck. Last edited by Shampoo; 07-05-2008 at 23:37. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
her mom was going to walmart, and she wanted to go with her, so her mom took her. and apparently she was acting like a 10 year old, thinking things out loud and was paranoid about why her mom wanted baking soda. and then when her mom was buying detergent she kept pressing cancel on the debit machine

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
What chemical was used is of very small consequence at this point. The idea is to see where the person's psyche is at and treat the situation accordingly. Not eating? Try a milkshake with some vitamins. Not sleeping? Ask a doctor for some sleeping-pills (don't overdo these). Unless the person is exhibiting harmful behavior - trying to harm self or others - do not take the person to a mental ward. They will likely diagnose the person as psychotic and fill them up with nasty drugs. And the person may never come back.
Look around these forums/UTFSE (search engine). There is a lot of data on handling bad trips/prolonged trips. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
Warning. Do not take this person to mental ward. Avoid psychiatrist at all cost. The will mislabel her and drug her forever. I have heard distant rumors of things like this but I have never seen from LSD. You must take this person home and take care of them. If a doctor will give something for sleep and anxiet that would be great. She should not be put on "mind drugs" like antipsychotics. And this is clearly not HPPD. I would take care of her and wait it out. Was she mentally stable before this happened? Other than that I do not know what to say.

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
SWIY's friend honestly seems like she is at a point in her life where things are most clear-not delusional. Give it some time. It seems of no worry right now. Overmedication will probably cause more problems at this point. Seeing a psychologist for a therapy session would be the only doctoral visit I would see as beneficial at this point.

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
I was thinking about this and this is a very interesting thread, i subscribed to it and later came back to post. If she is having problems eating I don't think smoking a joint with her would be a bad idea, it might get the gears rolling and make her think harder potentially or hopefully making her snap out of it. At the very least inspiring the munchies and filling her empty stomache.
Might be worth a try, just some thoughts. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
I would disagree strongly. The person is trying to come down from a prolonged, possibly psychotic, reaction to a psychedelic. They need steady ground beneath their feet, not mandalas on the streets from pot. Save the pot for another occasion. Sometimes having a drink or two (alcohol) can help. But only if the person indicates they would like one.
Usually this sort of reaction works itself out in a short time. Perhaps a week or two. What is important is to be supportive and be their friend. Just as though nothing has changed and all is well. The person knows they are not right in their head/spirit. Telling the person that you understand what they are going through will help. And that you have talked with people who are very skilled in this field of study. And they said that you will be fine soon and not to worry. This isn't uncommon. And make it clear you are there for them to help them - make them a meal, drive to a store, go see a movie - all the usual things one would do together. Your job is to be supportive and attentive, while not making a big deal out of this. Do not freak out whatever you do. You are the anchor this person will be relying on. After they have come back together, you'll end up laughing about this time. And the person will owe you a good dinner! And you will have a good friend for life. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
And this "care" will make this pseudo-psychosis a real and lasting one and cause additionally a PTSD, the anti-psychotics will really make her look like a psychotic even physically.
Nagognog had it all right, this was the best advise one could give, to someone in such a situation. A. Hofmann mentioned, that LSD might exacerbate an existing conflict, and bring it to the light as a struggle a cataleptic pro-anti state of being. The chlidish-naive mentality would actually be the most instrinsic, natural approach for solvation of these problems, which were manifesting themselves nearly a whole life long and were ignorated and defeated... waking up and finding one´s own true nature and truth again and seeing the betrail is definately _not_ a fun thing to do ( and might well explain this "crazyness" = pseudopsychosis or today again called psychosis) and I have to revert my opinion, to the point, that actually a setting and a detailed approach to the mechanisms of a LSD trip had to be made before tripping and a revision to be made after tripping and a next trip should be given the time, until one has understood the landmark, the former trip had set and then go on, when one´s sure about the whole process and goals and questions to ask during a trip. Taking LSD on a weekly basis is insane, imho, if one is just doing it for "recreation" = getting fucked and ignores the little tid-bits there are to this drug, compared to alcohol or the usual hang-overs. Unfortunately, there are no professionals, at least no academics of therapists, who are capable of knowing the LSD aspects and implications there might be and how to handle them best, except people like nagognog, shampoo and some other real-world experienced on this bord and those -unfortunately(if not, I´d be more than happy about it)- have no say in the case of treatments or jusristictions of an individual being in a state of LSD-induced confusion-revelation-learning process. I hope some day we´ll all see, even the "science" of today´s psychiatry, how easy one could be "healed" just by absolute freedom and time and that LSD et al. had all the potential to heal through pseudo-psychosis. Just give it a few weeks, a year, maybe three, hell, some lives´ve been fucked up 20-30 years so it might be just fair providing this time and freedom, for a complete remission and rescue of an individual´s world/soul and maybe a whole society. Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
I can not and will not believe LSD causes psychosis, however I have seen an overuse of stp turn a friend, into his best friend (talking to himself, EVEN ARGUING). But I agree with Panthers007 ,(alcohol) a bottle of wine can do magic! No doctor would prescribe it, but from swims experiences its the BEST. Curiously, from swims experiences its almost always the girls who vomit, or cry (and laugh). Whats happening there? out of swims reasoning.

The use of saying the person will be fine in a week or two - or similar - is to program the person's subconscious into re-setting it's bio-clock. It works. Regards no professional people of a psychedelic bent - one can make oneself available to the community by means of introduction. Talk to the people who are likely to be front-line when someone is brought in on a freak-out. Or sustained effect from LSD etal. These first-responders in the ER and/or psyche departments usually love talking shop. After 4 years of sucking the dick of some stodgy professor extolling toilet-training as being causative for the mental problems of today's youth, they tend to love getting a breath of fresh air. |

Re: Help! LSD long term delerium
You should take her out and do something fun (not drug related obviously). Do something that you and her enjoyed doing before the trip so that she can realise what it feels like to be her normal self again.
Think about it this way: When you think back to something you did as a kid you get a nice feeling and think to yourself "i wish i could go back to that age and do that again." do somethin to make her think this and then make it happen. |

Dito on the alcohol. Someone I met had a sort of unwanted, really not so comfy after effects, a few days after tripping. 2 beers put him on line again, though he don´t usally drink alcohol.
