USA - question about being a suspected buyer

so swim goes to college in southwest virginia where the cops are bored and looking for something to do. Swim was recently informed that two people have told the campus police that swim and his girfriend have been buying morphine from swims friend. swim doesnt know if he can trust his friend, who has a prescription, to keep his mouth shut. Swim is not currently in possession of any illicit substances so he is clear in the event of a search, but he wants to know if the dealer were to admit he had sold to swim could he get in trouble even though he doesnt have anything? Also could the two informants be used to convict swim of possession, or is swim in the clear because he is not in possession?
