Research of anti-malarials

I am studying chemistry at the University of Bristol and as part of my first year course I am doing a unit on Pharmacology. As part of my coursework I have been asked to compare 2 anti malarial drugs, of which I have chosen Chloroquine and Quinine. While looking on Internet sites I have found a range of qualitative information comparing the 2 drugs, but little quantifying the drugs. I am hoping you will be able to answer a few questions which will assist me in my study!

What is the normal time taken between taking each drug and some response? Some sites suggest a 'rapid' onset of action, but how long is this normally?

Why is Quinine the drug of choice for severe malaria instead of chloroquine?

I have seen that chloroquine is less expensive than quinine, but by how much? and why is it less expensive(is there a low yield when making quinine on an industrial scale)? How much does it cost the health service to buy each of the drugs?
