my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
swim has been on Ambien (Zolpidem) since about jan 2006 for insomnia. swim was also on elavil for a lil bit, that did not help. swim tried valerian (both the root, tea, valerian extract in drops on the tongue w/ an eye dropper). swim was on zoloft, and loved it for sleep and pmdd.. it was awesome, but did nothing to improve swims depression/mood.
Ambien helps knock swim out, but swim has noticed side efx of it about 2-3 months ago happening to swim just now... after all this time of taking it. swim has increased depression, severe feelings of being unmotivated everyday (being in a job that requires motivation everyday, this side efx is not good), lost interest in things that used to be fun to swim, feels physically drained and mentally (more physical then mental though), has alot of anger (swim is in anger management therapy too, but never use to be) and has been more angry at any lil thing (swim is like a ticking time bomb sometimes), swim feels homicidal/suicidal (sometimes 1 is more then the other), disoriented (swim sometimes doesn't know what day it is, what time it is, or where swim is or how swim got there), swim has started getting mad at her friends for no reason, swim feels shutdown like a computer and doesn't want to talk to anyone, not even her family or friends.... swim has had a slight increase in suicidal thoughts, but more so homicidal thoughts. sometimes swim thinks of all the diff ways swim could kill someone or the person(s) she wants to off before herself. swim just wants to sleep and wants ppl to leave her alone. even her family and friends... swim feels like she's in prison... swim wakes up every morning wanting to die and tries to think of a reason of why not to do it and can't and goes to work thinking about it all day everyday... thinks about the other things too, why is swim here, why does swim bother trying anymore, etc.. swiys know the usual shit... this has been going on for awhile now... but then again, swim didn't tattoo the following on herself for nothing: "Living To Die", and "With every breath, I pray for death." swim has the tools to do the job too. becuase of the job swim is in right now, swim does have the firearm or the drugs to do the job... but hasn't for some reason.. swim told her therapist all this, and he says he wants swim to go off ambien gradually and he wants to put swim on Valium. swims roommate is on Valium and hates it. swim has a friend who takes it also as an AD and he loves it... the doc told swim Valium will help her anxiety but help her sleep, but the ppz swim talked to who take it, they say it doesn't make swiys sleep and that it makes swiys antsy. my roomie says it makes her hallucinate.. swim might be down w/ that for a lil bit, but if it don't make swim sleep, swim is not interested in trying it... do swiys think doc should put swim on Valium? could swiys tell swim more about Valium? swim looked for the threads on it here but didn't find much. swim will google too, but swim knows this forum has like the best info from the users more so then google 99% of the time... that is why swim comes here first. |

Re: my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
Surely buddy, I can help you out. Whether you are being prescribed Valium(Diazepam) or Xanax(Alprazolam), both will help you cope with your anxiety and allow you to function better both at work and home. For the first few days however, you will feel a bit tired because you need to build up a small tolerance to the drug(s). Diazepam is mostly used to treat anxiety(what you have), insomnia(what you have), seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and is also a very good medicine for muscle spasms. Have you ever had a muscle twitch that wouldn't go away, well these two Benzo's are great for relief from that, but they are potent drugs, and there are other drugs out there that can treat muscle spasms, but if they are severe than surely these will be a perfect remedy for that condition.
Diazepam has a fairly long half-life at 20-100 hours, meaning it will be in your system for a while, which is why you will feel a bit tired for the first few days, after that the tolerance is built up and you can function on a daily basis (stress free and calm). Valium is a very popular drug, and is used widely around the world to calm patients when they enter a MRI machine, since some people are claustrophobic and need something to sedate the patient. The one thing you need to worry about Benzos are that they can be habit forming, and you will need to be slowly waned off the drug before you can stop. But if you aren't abusing the drug, I wouldn't worry about that too much, as your doctor will take care of you on that cause. I hope I have helped you out, and also given you the required information needed. PM me if you need anymore info. Regards. ![]() Quote:

Re: my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
JJx3, thx for the info. and by the way, this swim is a female not a male... yes swim knows, the name is decieving.
well saw the doc, and the issues swim was having is getting dealt with and fast... swim got switched to 2nd shift for work, 1pm to 9pm. swim used to work at 5am-1pm, this was hell on swim's insomnia... swim's logic tells her, if the boss knows he's got a worker who's got insomnia, anxiety, stress, etc... but moreso has severe insomnia, logic tells swim, that boss should put that person on a night shift.... not morning shift. well after 10 months the boss finally saw the light and put swim on 2nd shift... of course swim's therapist had a big role in making this happen as swim did too.. anywho... swim starts that shift tomm. swim has been on it before, and when she was on it before, she only took 2 pills out of 30 days of being on it. swim thinks she may not even need sleep meds, so long as she remains on this good shift that is... the doc is not putting swim on valium. swim must of heard him wrong... but it's not valium. swim doesn't know what it will be, he mentioned atavan, but didn't say if it was what swim was going to be on. swim doesn't know what swim will be on... but swim is doing better then she was a few days ago... thx for the replies as for muscle spasms, yes swim gets them bad in her stomach and her back is acting up too... |

Diazepam{Valium} depending on the dose WILL bring on sleep just as any benzo in a high enough dose would however the reason why docters like to put patients on Diazepam{if neccasarry} is because of diazepams long HALF LIFE{24 hours} and it active metabolites have an even greater half lives{36-200 plus hours} IT is for this reason that diazepam is the best benzo since the long half life allows a gradual decline of the drug in the body so as NOT to feel "inbetween" withdrawals which happen with ZOLPIDEM{Ambien, Stillnoct}. |

Re: my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
I think there are cross tolerance issues with the so called "z" drugs and other benzodiazepines such as diazepam, this may be among the reasons for switching to diazepam to negate any possible withdrawal from the zolpidem. The long half life of diazepam is the main reason it is used in tapering from other benzodiazepines or the "Z" drugs as the case may be.
Diazepam can be used as a sleep aid but there are other 'hypnotic' benzodiazepines that are more suited for insomnia, never the less it should definitely help since the effects are quite similar. |

Re: my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
Diazepam masks the awful physical symptoms of anxiety, making the body feel comfy, and the mind not bothered.
Valerian does this also. Y has been prescribed diazepam strictly on a doctors discretion for eight years, for anxiety related symptoms not helped by other head meds. As doctor has ensured Y's use is short but regular scripts with more gaps, the last little yellow pill Y took is as effective as the very first little yellow five mil pill he took all those eight years ago. Y still gets disabling symptoms on his non vally days, but needs the non vally days to stay so the vally works on the vally days. Valierian is more than adequate for this purpose. Wish doc could prescribe this too. |

Re: my doc wants to put swim on Diazepam -- what are the effects?
Search for the chemical name and not the manufactored name, valium is diazepam. This post reminds phaze of himself, and he thinks that homocidal thoughts are part of life, like the code wrote in your dna, its human nature to get mad and go primative when stress is built up and anxiety levels are high, like today a guy parrarell parked in a spot that his vehicle would barely fit in and almost hit my car, he backed and up worked the vehicle in there for like 10 minutes, it had me completely stressed out, i thought you mother fucker i should blow the horn and get out and beat you to death. But thats another part of being human, and being you is that you are most likley a good person and have morals so try to put up with as much shit as you can which leads you to not wanting to put up with any shit at all.
Suicidal, life sucks im a failure people are all morons and i cant live in this society. I feel like that sometimes, as im sure most people do. Like when your 10 minutes late for work on your last writeup before termination and mcdonalds accuses you of trying to steal a burger after you told them they left one out and messed the rest of the order up and didnt give you a reciept. Just kill me, why dont i run into this fuckin poll. Or better yet, before i kill myself why dont i kill her and everyone who works at mcdonalds. Well its just human nature really, whether you voice those thoughts or not we all have naughty bad thoughts. Its just the time we live in today alot of the basic human nature thoughts have become taboo to the norm. Phaze has been throught he usual rundown of ssris sleep meds ssnris and anxiety medicine. It pretty much is a lose lose situation, after you get the medicine you feel like is working good for you it pretty much blanks you out and makes you numb to society, because thats what you want really right, you dont want to have to deal with problems in society so the doctor finally writes you something that no matter what happens for daily stress nothing can really get to you. Sometimes this can turn you cold and mean, and it can also lead to addiction and many more things. Personally phaze says the best way to deal with it is just live life day by day and accept that this is all there is. Suicide isnt an option and homocide will suck because youll go to jail for life. You may have a mental disability, but really the best thing is just to accept it and move on, doping up every day isn't going to help, its just gonna prolong the issue and build up more stress and problems, pretty much a deadend road if you ask phaze. If suicide is thick on your mind and you believe that you will actually do it, maybe you should go ahead and be put on medicine, it will give you the same path phaze had to walk on and eventually hell that might mean 1 year that might mean 10 years but one day chances are your gonna be like damn i dont really need nothign to live. (*except for pot, just a little humour because phaze loves pot) |

Swim agrees. Zolpidems short half life make it a poor use for sleep. Though Doctors seem to dislike giving out Valiums. Ask for Clonzepam also a long half life and Doctors seem more willing to prescribe this one. |
