Helping a smack dependant
Can anyone help please. I have become aware that someone within our family has started taking smack. Could you please let us know how we can help this person to get off this stuff. His personality is changing. He is lying and stealing to feed the habit. He is up and down, can become violent and has low self-esteem.
Please can I have as much advice as possible from anyone who has gone through similar trauma. I really do want to try to get him off this before he gets more reliant and gets to a point of no return. Thank you. |

Re: Helping a smack dependant
There really isn't a thing you could do to get them to kick the habit. That is ultimately a decision that they will have to willingly make themselves. Sadly most will end up suffering a great deal before that is likely their decision. The only thing you can do is be supportive/loving and express your concerns with them honestly. Avoid being judgemental, but don't allow yourself to be taken advantage of due to being too sympathetic.
If they are destined to lose themselves to the addiction you're not going to be able to stop it. Although family/friends can drastically increase the likelihood of successfully recovering from rock bottom. |

Re: Helping a smack dependant
you carnt help them if they dont want help either cut all ties with them or do a trainspotting and lock them in a room for weeks to do there rattle even then they are still a chance of relaps
personally id cut all ties try and protect you family, home, possesions and watch the vunerable members of the family e.g. mam and be strong for both of you and dont try and sugar coat it stick to cold and hard facts as the vunerable ones will help support his addiction by giving him chance after chance in keep getting robbed ps sorry to hear about your situation iv seen it to many times before |

Re: Helping a smack dependant
offer a suboxone treatment program, and help him by encouraging n.a. meetings. other than that i agree with the other posters. only if he's ready will he have any hope of recovery, h is a very powerful drug and it will consume him if he takes the severity of addiction for granted.
