Hopefully someone can identify swim's current problem. Swims arms and legs are blotchy, red kind of with a little bluish purple. And her hands are a darker tone. Hard to explain.
Is this due to lack of blood flow? Does Swim just have poor circulation? She has taken an ample amount of Adderall over the past 24 hours and appreciates any replies. |

Re: Purple Skin
hmm the only thing that comes to mind is called vasoconstriction, or a lack of oxygenated blood reaching the extremities. This can be caused by many thingsbut it seems amphetamines can cause vasoconstriction. Symptoms of vasoconstriction include cyanosis. SWIY can check the skin that is able to be seen through SWIY's nails. Usually it should be pinkish. if it has a blueish color then that is a symptom of cyanosis. Another area that will turn a bluish color is SWIY's lips.
Researching Vasoconstriction would be a good idea. EDIT: it doesn't seem like it's terribly life threatening, this is just for information purposes. Last edited by RaverHippie; 03-05-2008 at 14:21. Reason: more info |

Re: Purple Skin
Decreased blood pressure, flow, and blotching of the skin screams dehydration.

Re: Purple Skin
This is one of those symptoms where you should seek immediate medical attention rather than praying for replies from medically untrained forum posters. But it sounds like either an allergic reaction or poor circulation - both of which could have dire effects.

Re: Purple Skin
Yes, it sounds more serious than anything that could be answered in a forum. Is it a sort of rash or more of a general discolouration? It might be a straightforward problem that might require some antibiotics but there's no point sitting around wondering. See a doctor!

Re: Purple Skin
Its been said, but this thread screams it. Purple skin is a sign of asphyxiation of some sort, especially if it is conditional on you doing something. If it is a rash as NB suggested it could be, then I have absolutely no idea. I just saw the title of this thread and thought I would support the "asphyxiation" hypothesis some more because, to me, it seems to be both obvious and very dangerous. NB is right though, it sounds like an issue too serious for someone to diagnose you over the internet. I would be concerned and see a doctor ASAP if it persists. If it stops, you don't need to rush as much, but I would at least call and ask my doctor what it could possibly be or mention it if I was planning on going for another reason soon. Purple skin is not "business as usual" in your body under any circumstances.

Re: Purple Skin
Yeah SWIY should see a doc. Have you every taken amps? Cause there is a slight chance it could be an allergy to the amphetamine or other inactive in the pill. Also in the future cut down a bit on amphetamines if you have been taking too many in this particular event.

Re: Purple Skin
Just adding that this is one of the strongest shows in support for someone seeing a doctor I've seen before on this forum, so I think you should really heed the advice. Your health is more important than anything else. Also, if you wouldn't mind, please let us know what it actually is if you do find out! I'm still stumped because I've never heard of such a case with these circumstances. If you can get people on the internet concerned about your health you know it can't be something good. Anyway, I hope everything works out well. I wish you good luck and good health.

Re: Purple Skin
SWIM has had this happen anytime I stay up all night w/amphetamines. A hot shower will increase circulation and it will return to normal.
