Re: Good beer in the uk

Try the german section at Tesco, e.g. Erdinger (Wheat beer from Bavaria). I rarely drink alcohol, but every few months I enjoy having a wheat beer just for the taste.

Re: Good beer in the uk

With commercial beer it's more about the temperature and the vessel as opposed to the quality (granted we're not talking bargain bin lagers here). Get everything in bottles and make sure they're ice cold. If you like Corona, try Brahma, Bravara or Sol. These are all nice light-style beers designed as summer drinks to be sipped under the sun.

AW: Good beer in the uk

Becks !!! if available becks gold..

krombacher is quite nice
holsten also
and of course czech budweiser
corona

dont like carlsberg & heineken

yeah obviously the german section has quite a lot to offer with there many (completly) different kinds of beers but needs some time to figure them out, f.e. "kölsch" is quite nice, "Dunkles"(german for dark), like said above this wheat beer, helles (bright/light), berlin white and others.. some more sweet and more bitter, some completley different, there should be something for SWIY but it might be necessary to find a "beer store" to obtain these. in the north "we" usually drink pils, like becks, the south is known for there thousands of local beers, especially wheat. kölsch is from cologne, and the others im not sure yet, usually i like wheat or pils

if SWIY prefers light but still normal-strenght beer he should give american beer a shot, not as bad as its reputation, but the term "girls beer" is quite appropriate, if one wants to get drunk fast its not a bad choice.

Re: Good beer in the uk

Staropramen (Star) is a rather tasty Czech premium lager (might be a little yeasty for some)

Red Stripe has the advantage that (if drinking it in dodgy psytrance clubs, as the flamingo is often wont to do) it tastes OK warmish

That's the worst beer I know. No-one touches it here, not even the bums. The only people who buy Harp are ninety year-old men who hide it in their coal sheds thinking British troops are still patrolling the streets.

Re: Good beer in the uk

I've found a new love for Polish beers, Lech and Tyskie are rather nice, quite light tasting and also strong in alcohol.

Oranjeboom and Hurlimanns export are old favourites, Shepherd Neame pubs only though!

Re: Good beer in the uk

I can't remember the darn names but I love all the Polish beers available in the off liscences. Zweivetz or something like that (Peasants on the can or bottle); a green can with a goat, etc. All very nice. Smooth, lite tasting but strong in alcohol 5-6%.

ha ha love this description. it is called zywiec and yes there are dancing people on the can or label in traditional clothes to show that if you drink enough of the contents, you too will also be singing and dancing. but the can is not green, it is white with red and gold writing. it's 5.7%.
lech and zubr come in a green can and are also very good polish beers available in uk.

if you want to try some premium English beers i would recommend:
Shepherd Neame - Celebration ale -1698
Fullers - Honey Brew > Personal favourite.

I've gone from the common commercial piss water..

I don't really drink beer anymore but when I did my favourites were Guinness, Leffe and Erdinger. I don't mind Grolsch but can't touch Carling, Carlsberg, Heineken etc.
