tramadol sustained release. please help

hay all
swim has been prescribed tramadol 100mg sustained release tablets and have been taking them for a week now.
swim gets alot of pain and these dont seem to work atall because swim thinks they arnt intence enough due to them being sustained release.

swim was on dhc 30mg before this.
swim wants to know how to make them not sustained release, what do you people do when you want to abuse slow release tablets?

these are plastic capsuals and are only 100mg each.
the reason swim wants to do this is she belives that if they absorbed quicker they would be better.

can anyone help.

so basicly swim just wants to know how to abuse sustained release tablets but for a medical reason

bloodred1889 added 34 Minutes and 46 Seconds later...

come on someone must know.
do you just open the pill up and swallow whats inside for the full effects or what?
or is that dangerous?

Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

Usually one would crush the pill into as fine a powder as you can get and swallow the powder (parachute, transfer to another capsule, or just swallow it)
Not sure how the time release works on the trams, but simply crushing it should do the trick.

What do the pills look like inside?

100mg of trams is enough to give SWIM a decent time

Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

I reckon if one were to open the capsules and chew up whatever is inside it would cancel the sustained release properties. This can be harded to achieve if there is wax involved as is sometimes the case with sustained release tablets as it sticks to teeth!

EDIT: Presumably crushing would work too, as Nahbus suggested.

100mg isn't a dagerous dose, "some" people like around 200-250mg, one should always start out small though.

Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

well there in capsuals, you know those two color tablets.
inside seems to be white crystal type things or a course powder when you shake the capsual you can hear the stuff inside.

why chew and not just swallow?
would swim have to chew it?

"why chew and not just swallow?
would swim have to chew it?"

SWIY doesn't have to chew it, SWIY can crush it up. Crushing it up destroys the larger chunks, which dissolve slowly. When you crush it, you would increase the surface area, thus providing a much faster absorption rate, which should effectively "destroy" the time release

Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

Yes. The stuff in the capsules is likely to be granulated and certain amounts of the granules are coated with different substances, protecting the drug inside. These substances will each take a different amount of time to dissolve, creating the time release effect. Crushing the granules will destroy the coating and the body can access the content all at once.

Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

Swim says empty the capsule, crush beads with card or paper with a lighter sliding over the top of the card. Take this powder and parachute it... Should result in a better experience. Swim has a large opiate tolerance and takes 400mgs to get a nice buzz but around 150-200mgs to kill pain.

Also tramadol is a long lasting opioid and takes around an hour to kick in. Swim wishes swiy the best of luck with it and hopes swiy can find relief as swim has read quite a few of swiys posts and knows they've been struggling for sometime now!!!

It should be noted that tramadol often causes seizures when taken at high doses. The MAXIMUM recommended dose is no more than 400mg per day.

Be careful - the risk of seizure is very real. SWIY should read this DF thread for more info before trying tramadol: An overview on the dangers of tramadol abuse

Exclamation Re: tramadol sustained release. please help

Swim would simply empty the contents of the capsule under the tongue and dissolve if Swiy can stand the taste. BE VERY CAREFUL if Swiy is on any other SSRI or SSNRI class drug as seretonin syndrome could occur! Tramadol has a slight SSRI effect that would be enhanced by said class of drugs. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/ultram-er_wcp.htm
