Absinthe recipes
Anyone have any idea what is the best thing to do with 3 grams of 10x wormwood extract? Should I dissolve it in alcohol? Or I read somewhere that Absinthe drinkers used to take wormwood extract and dissolve it in water to get a strong thujone physcadelic type drink with no alcohol. Anyone know anything about this ? Also anyone know the best thing to do with wormwood essence liquid extract? It is this little bottle with strong extract of wormwood oil containing alot of thujone, should I put so many drops of this in alcohol or just water? Anyone know anything at all about any of this? |

Actually they lowered the content of the phsycoactive chemicals in the absinthe you buy today compared to what it used to be. If you know what you are doing I think you could make far stronger absinthe. Only way is to read up a little on it and learn from trial and error, and tell all of us how it went so we don't have to go through the trouble

It will put thujone in the everclear (the active ingredent) but will not be true absinthe.

Also use the other traditional ingredients if you can find em. Wormwood tastes horrible, some of the traditional ingredients add to the effect while others cover up to horid taste of wormwood.

I would also reccomend that you buy it. It is QUITE legal in many places in Europe and much easier/safer than making it yourself. Here in Barcelona they even have an absinthe bar that uses the same recipe they have used for the last...well, over 100 years. Or if you DO make it, be careful with the dosage of wormwood, seeing as it IS poisonous and you don't want to be able to overdose on it. |

there are some brands of absinthe online that SWIM bought that contain 100mg of thujone.
drink it how it was supposed to be: slowly pour it over sugar (to combat taste) drink it slowly maybe 2 shots an hour, over the course of an evening. you won't have any true psychadelic "green pixie" visuals, but you will have a very clear-headed drunkenness and a very stimulated mind. you may experience some awake-dreaming similar to a nod. going to sleep after absinthe is absolutely amazing. the most vivid dreams and realizations in my half-sleep/half-awake dreaming state were from absinthe. drink it slowly! don't just do shots and get hammered - you will miss the experience. |

I agree. if you share your abinthe experience with a very close
partner, you may learn more about yourself as well as them. You two will become very close and can share in your experience together. The two experiences can merge into one delightful night. fooling around is very intimate and loving on absinthe. You will have a wonderful night if you share it with the right partner who you are very open and comfortable with. |

Re: Absinthe recipes
This one contains both Wormwood and Calamus root. I also added a recipie for absinthe martini. I hope you like them.
Absinthe (Bluehouse Recipe) 1.5 oz Wormwood 1/3 oz Hyssop 1/3 oz Calamus Root 1/8 oz Fennel Seed 1 tsp Mint 1 tsp cloves 1 tsp coriander 1/2 tsp Nutmeg 2 Star Ansise fruits First, Grind the Fennel Seeds, Coriander, and Cloves with a mortar and pestle. Mix with the rest of the dry ingredients (wormwood, hyssop, calamus, and mint) and pour them into an airtight container. Mix with a bottle of Everclear (750ml, 190 proof). Actually, if you want to end up with a full 750ml of Absinthe, you'll need to use about 1000ml of Everclear in order to compensate for the alcohol that is lost to absorption by the mash. Allow mix to steep for at least two weeks - two months. Note: regular-strength alcohols (less than 100 proof) will not work. Can substitute rum 151.After 2 weeks -2 months. Strain the liquid through a thin cloth (muslin or a handkerchief) to remove the solid matter. Now Add: 1/2 Dropper full of Wormwood Essential Oil.* 1/3 - 2/3 Bottle of Anise Extract (To taste) 1 tsp Mint Extract * 2-10 shots Ouzo* (To taste) Adding more Calamus will make it more potent but not more than 1/2 oz of calamus because it will give you a nasty headache. Fill a glass with ice. Pour 1 shot of Absinthe into the glass. Set 2 sugar cubes on a slotted spoon (or fork) over the glass. And finally, SLOWLY pour cold water over the cubes to dissolve the sugar into the absinthe. Be sure to pour ONLY the water over the cubes. If the cubes soak up the Absinthe they will dissolve more slowly. It also helps to "pre-soak" the cubes on the spoon for about 10-15 seconds before you pour in the rest of the water. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Absinthe Martini Recipie: 1 shot absinthe 1/2 shot Vermouth 1 or 2 shots water (to taste) 2 sugar cube ice cubes Fill a martini glass with ice. Pour the absinthe, Vermouth, and water over the sugar cubes Important Tips:

Re: Absinthe recipes
I've been told that most "plant oils" are not safe for human consumption. While there isn't a lot used above, DO make sure you are using a food grade extract, you never know what an individual is using to make them, and if they are being sold as incense, they may be dangerous.
Having also seen them used in an alcoholic drink, they don't mix into the booze, and form a film on the surface, coating the lips with a gross film. Best to taste it before sharing. It may be possible to remove both issues here with distillation. Actually distillation will make any absinthe recipe far more palatable, removing the bitter parts from the wormwood. As for the technical end of that, I don't have any info on the best way to go about it (some of the easiest stills to make don't remove all the undesirables) |
