Combinations - Is it safe to take codeine and Lorazepam,

Depends really, they will have what i think is known as mutual potentiation, which is something i read here. As it sounds, the codeine will potentate the lorazepam and the lorazepam will potentate the codeine, so care has to be taken with doses.

Is it safe to take therapeutic doses of codeine and lorazepam, i would say there shouldn't be any problems. For recreational purposes then there will be risks, if someone's tolerance is low then overdosing is a definite possibility.

yeah, in low dose or with experience/tolernace its pretty safe. but SWIM doesnt like to mix opiates with benzos, since the benzos makes him more noddy and also takes off a little the "edge" of the codeine, but also some nice things.. so SWIY can give it a shot, but SWIM would safe them and not combine em. but it is to say, if you are careful with the dosage its safe.

What about some advice for my friend who is thinking about combining Codeine and Demerol, minus the lorazepam. Maybe safe in low doses?

Meperidine(Demerol) is a synthetic narcotic that works on the same pathways that opiates like codeine do. So the effect would be as though the monkey had taken a higher dose of codeine. Or meperidine.

Mixing codeine(or other opiates) with benzodiazepines does require lowering the dose of both to avoid the possibility of lowered respiration and worse - see Cheynes-Stokes respiration:

It is interesting to note that in the former Soviet Union codeine was available in pills with diazepam(Valium) in them. A monkey Bongo knew was from Moscow, and he raved about them. He also traded his wife for a gram of cocaine - so who knows what to think about this.

As long as Swiy doesnt take it too far. Swim was given multiple shots of lorazepam on top of his dillaudid pump for breakthrough pain during his last GI surgery, and Swim was on ALOT of dillaudid!
