How to enjoy codeine again?

Let me start off by saying swim has had 3-4 back surgeries, and he is only in his early twenties. For most of 2003 and the first few months of 2004, as well as from late 2006 to mid-late 2007, swim was on vicodin. His surgeries for the most part haven't helped and he still feels chronic pain. Swim just wanted to give a little background info on his experience with opiates.

Anyways, swim got off the vicodin in october of 2007 and has been on codeine, a med which is 300mg acetaphetomen and 30mg of codeine. When swim first tried it, he took 4 pills. Swim felt decent, but he wanted a better high. So the next time swim tried 7 pills, which was MUCH better and gave a much better feeling. Swim knows that is 2100mg of tylenol and you shouldn't go over 4000mg, so I only take the codeine once a day.

Anyways, swim gets very itchy when he takes codeine, and he also sometimes gets nausea. I love codeine, but I want to know how I can enjoy it without the side effects? Would taking an antihistamine help with the itching? What would help with nausea? I always eat when I take codeine, but sometimes I still get nausea so I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do.

Also, I've seen that people say that 300mg of codeine is a really good dosage, my question is how do people take that much without puking? I'm also wondering what over the counter drugs can enhance the effects? Sometimes I take an extra 500mg tylenol with my codeine just to see if this would boost the effects, am I wrong in thinking that would work?

it will boost the painkilling effects and also add its own effects to it, but the high will not be stronger
in my signature is a link to the CWE faq, there is a link to "potentiating opiates", which might help SWIY (but SWIY should really consider the CWE or at least read about the APAP poisoning part in the faq and about the chemical properties)

against the nauseau and itchiness helps tolerance and/or anti-histaminika, but SWIY should look for one that isnt sedative, or he will find himself nodding, usually they can also make the effects a little stronger.

SWIM would recommend a good anti-histaminika (but isnt sure which one for SWIY is the best) and grapefruit juice as a enhancer of effects, but no other APAP etc, since SWIYs liver will suffer greatly, not only from the APAP..

Definitely do not add any more tylenol to the mix, that is nuts, it definitely would not have any narcotic effect what so ever. The 4000mg of acetaminophen is over a 24 hour period, and it's a 1000mg limit at any one time (with 6 hours in between).

As outriderx said, check out the CWE thing and get rid of that acetaminophen. If you are not interested in it then you are going to end up doing your liver in, there is nothing surer. 2600mg of acetaminophen at one time every day will end up doing some damage, and while tolerance builds to the codeine more will be required which means an extraction is a must.

Couple of things. When I used to call my nurse and tell her my medicine wasn't helping as much, she'd tell me to take more tylenol as that would enhance it, so that is what I was going off.

Anyways, let's just say I really can't do the CWE, I have people I live with who can't see me doing anything like that, so its a bit hard. Anyways, one thing I like about codeine is that it really doesn't build up a tolerance with me. With vicodin, it did and very quickly, but with codeine i start taking 7 pills for recreational doses and have never changed that number in 5 months.

exactly.. and just like SWIM said, think about a non-sedative anti-histamine, but if you get a lil tolerance you wont need that.

APAP is really nothing to play around with, check out in the CWE faq the link to the thread where a guy got poisend and also the info about poisoning.. also if SWIY has the possibilty he should switch to PCM (paracetamol) combo, its not better on SWIYs liver, maybe even worse, but there is an antidote which SWIY could use after usage (also with CWE recommended) and its easier to filter. apart from the "putting it in the fridge and wait" the whole CWE process, if done 1-2-3 times, takes not even 5 minutes. (look at the picturese in the cwe faq)

If some one continues to take 7 30/300mg tablets at any one time then an itch is going to be the least of their problems. Taking 500mg of tylenol (paracetamol) with therapeutic doses of something like ibuprofen, then it will help alleviate pain, but it has absolutely zero recreational effect and it is crazy to add more when less is required.

Tolerance WILL build up to any opiate/opioid, that's what happens when someone takes it every day especially with recreational doses.

Taking 210mg of codeine isn't worth taking 10 times that amount of paracetamol in one sitting, it is double the recommended dose.

theres also a method of doing an extraction with alcohol instead of water, which one could do in his room and let the alcohol evaporate somewhere, even though SWIm thinks also the cwe can be made easily, just put a big amount in warm water and let it dissolve and at some point SWIY should/will be alone to put it in the fridge for one hour, even cold temperatures like 10-15 degress will filter some! maybe putting ice in the filter would also work, still better than having a liver-transplantation in a few years ahead...
