Spain OTC?

Hi All,
Can anyone update previous threads on the OTC situation in Spain? Is it still possible for someone to legally purchase codeine at reasonable doses from a walk in pharmacy? If so, what would be the barriers (if any) and what should someone ask for? Thanks in advance.

someone told me that tramadol is available and ephedrine, both not officially (with prescription) but in spain the pharmacists are like half-doctors so if SWIY can convince them you really need these, you can indeed get these. perduretas is a tramadol generic as far as swim knows

SWIM doesnt know about codein but btw is also not sure about this thread, if this is ok with the rules (source discussion) so..

SWIM doesn't know if it is against the rules either. But, he will edit post to delete if needed.

There are two types of OTC codeine in Spain.

One is called Cod-Efferalgan. It's an effervescent preparation of Codeine 30mg/500mg APAP/tablet. Not the best results for SWIM with CWE.

The other is:

Termalgin Codeina: 15mg/300mg Codeine/APAP. SWIMS Flamingo likes to do CWE with this (because he also gets a free pill casing from it.)

Perduretas are 50mg codeine phosphate, they're multicolored and from what SWIM gathers are time-release so you'll have to chew em up, and by chewing em up you get wax in your teeth.

SWIM is looking into them as they are almost as cheap as his current pill - Chemists Own - without the need of extraction. This is a good since SWIMs extractions have been pretty much crap!

ha, but SWIM knows theres a tramadol type, trops, pills & ampulles than SWIY could easily obtain if tried in a few places and tells them about his pain problems

It is alright to provide general information on the legality and availability of drugs that are OTC in various nations. Just don't give names and addresses of the stores where one can get these. That would construe a source as well as an advertisement.

Thanks for the info. I have heard that there is brand of 50mg codeine named codeisan that is easily obtained. Anybody else heard of it?

well if one product containing codeine or tramadol is available under certain circumstances, there are diffeerent names / genericas for it. it will be the easiest for SWIY to just ask for the ingredient (i.e. codeine) if you have dry cough, thats the best medicine to cure it. etc...

so, are perduras OTC? My pet Penguin is confused...he would rather use those than doing CWE's all the time.

no they are not, but pharmacists in spain have a better education than in other countries and can act to a certain extend like doctors, as far as SWIM knows only non-controlled substances and only certain onces.. similar to france, where they can only give out 1 or 2 packages max and only if they think its the right mediaction, swim is not sure about the legal facts with this (but pretty likely its like that, and he knows the pharmacists in spain have better eduction & apprenticeship than in other countries) but thats what the reality is like

Confirmed as far a Thermalgin is concerned. Although dosage isn't exactly 15mg.
Two package were purchased in Spain for a reasonable price. There were required for migraine. Normal medication was Solpadol 500/30. Was directed to take 2 for a first dose then 1 for any subsequent dosages. This was lower than my normal dosage and I enquired about taking two. My Spanish wasn't up to scratch and she though I wanted another box which was gave me no prob.

Sounds interesting. I believe that Spain has a reasonably progressive, harm reduction based drugs policy. Does anybody know if this includes a pharmacy based Needle and Syringe exchange programme? BTW, don't worry, SWIM is not intending to purchase codeine (and at the same time request an exchange!) and then attempt to inject it! He understands the oral requirements of the substance and the potential dangers of IV codeine.

well you can buy needles and syringe thats for sure, and they have some "decent" programms, like substitution afaSWIM knows..

but really this "source" discusiion should stop here, we are quite close to the limit, i'd say.. (of course needles and synringe is a different thing)

I've been taking codeine for a long time,most specially during winter times as in Spain we can get fresh opium as from mid june...

in the past we could get the following medicamnets from over the counter,all including high doses of codeine

MAJORLY COUGH SYRUPS...BISOLVON AND CODEISAN

now bisolvon has been redesigend without the ephedrine and codeine,and codeisan is no longer available

but we can get our hands on a new cough syrup called TOSEINA which is 250 ml of codeine phosphate with a proportion of 10mg of codeine per 5ml of the syrup

although it requires prescription,no one,and i mean NO ONE asks for it in the pharmacies

every time i go on holiday to see my family and mates I come back with at least 5 bottles to last me a couple of months

and it works like a Dream...awake

my pet flamingo is very interested in tramadol, but he has to find another pharmacy, as he's been in there at least once every two weeks asking for some type of codeine...they look at him funny now...but maybe it's just because he's pink.....

Very much so. SWIM is heading to Magaluf (Palma, Tenerife)

yes, not otc, but as described above pharmacists can hand it out if they feel its appropriate. and SWIM would also prefer it over codeine, by price dosage & effects
the name is "adolonta" and comes in tablets, ampulles and as a solution (forgot the word for that, i think its "gotas" or "solución", its drops, and thus best bio-available orally). one should gor for former or first if he wants to get it handed out for pain relief. bentazepam is afaSWIMknows also aavailalble, just like ephedrine, both not officially OTC, but "if necessary" they can hand it out. just ask and state your health problem. efedrina level is the name.
otherwise DXM is available OTC

Toseina is a codeine cough syrup available otc in spain it is 250ml bottle with 500mg codeine in it i.e 5ml is 10mg. it's really cheap and good stuff !!! also don't forget that Romilar Tablets are available in spain 300mg per packet, you can only buy 1 at a time but pharmacy shopping in spain is easy cos there are like at least 10 it most large towns. oh they is romilar cough syrup 300ml with 600mg DXM in it but it tatses like sh*t !!! and effects are very different, even though DXM is the only actiuve in it , it also contains ethanol and sacarose? anyway when the syrup hits your stomach it makes you very queasy and feel ill. the spanish name for them is Romilar Comprimidos. Pharmacies never ask for ID or question why you buy things, only ID foor prescriptions is needed. btw when taking romilar in any form leave at least 2 hours after your last meal before you take it or projectile vomiting is very likely. (more likely with syrup though).

SWIM thinks the first time he took dxm was with that said cough syrup.. but it was fun.. even though he vomited (but he didnt really have to.. it was just was one of his first experiences like that ever and he was scared)..

but please.. this "pharmacy shopping" is close to suggesting people to break laws.. SWIM'd say lets not go further than this here, anything else would prolly be source discussion
