Unprescribed drugs: Not a new problem

Quote:
An incident last week at Watauga High School has officials asking parents to monitor their medicine cabinets.

Thursday, two students were hospitalized due reactions from unprescribed medication.
The two 14-year-olds had been taking Adderol, a drug intended to treat attention deficit disorder. An investigation into how the minors obtained the drug led to charges for seven students, all under the age of eighteen.
Prescription drug abuse isn’t a new phenomenon among high school students. Last year there were several arrests at Avery County High School after students were discovered trading pills they’d obtained from their parents’ medicine cabinets. Authorities say it’s important to talk to your kids about the dangers of unprescribed medication, and to be aware of what’s in your medicine cabinet.
