docs pharms and chomperz

swim went to my doctor. he gave me 30 vickes then put me on a pain contract. the next month he up'ed it to 45 and told me he thinking about putting me on a longer acting narcotic. obviously swims not gunna get fentynal because he's on hydro so it will mostliely be something very low. but swim does not want ms contin and afraid that is wat he will give swim and he w ould def. prefer oxycontin or even just percs. im wondering if can say something that would make swim not sound like a drug seeker so i dont get the morphine .im afraid to lie and say t hat i've had side effects to morphine becasue there is no documentation of ever being perscribed it. any hellp would be awsome. also swim had the vickes filled about a week earlier than the next appointment. is the pharmacy going to make swim wait to get the new perscription filled? would it make a dif. if it was a different medication or can the doc. over ride it?

If he writes a script for another drug you can fill it when ever you want the pharmacy wont say anything. The only reason why they wouldnt fill it is if it was the same substance i.e. morphine and morphine not vicodin and morphine. Whats the mg of the hydrocodone? If its a concern of the tylenol long term he could move you to 10/325 hydrocodone. Its impossible to tell what he will prescribe since swim was on hydrocodone and the first long acting opiate a doctor gave him was fentanyl. If you dont want the morphine and dont want to look like a drug seeker youll have to try it then the next appointment report that you experienced side effects or that it didnt help with you pain.

Damn i wish they perscribed fentynal. never had long acting yet. thats wat the plan was this monthz. mg of 'dro was 5's the problem was the vicks dont last long. swim thinking of just saying that old doc. put swim on ms and ended up switching to oxy. swim not a huge hydro fan. would perfer oxy. LOL as would most.

The danger in being honest with a doc and telling them that morphine isnt the best pain reliever for you is you take the chance of him labeling you a drug seeker when you ask for Oxy by name. Once your doc thinks youre an abuser youll have a tough time getting him to trust you.

yea true that. altho in past surguries they d id give swim oxycontin as well as percs for breaktrough pain so i think that swim rather try the oxy because swim had it before and and morphine sounds rather strong it might make me sound less drug seeker. oh well time will tell .

Showing concern and acting opiate naive always make doctors feel more comfortable in prescribing opioids. Atleast thats swims opinion from his dealings with tons of docs and tons of opiates.

Well, I am on Perks, 10 mg worth at 2 every 4 hours. I had to sign a pain contract as well, I get 100 every few weeks, and the Perks definitely help a lot. Percocet is obviously a bit stronger than Vicodin, but perhaps your doctor could do the same thing with you? He could just prescribe double what you currently are taking, only oxycodone, rather than hydrocodone... Talking to your doctor isn't going to make him angry, if you have concerns regarding any type of drug, talk to him or her, that's what they are there for.

The kid around the corner got switched to hydromorphone for two reasons: Asking for it and previous history.

It apears that if one is able to have a preferenced based on medical history then it is less likely to be seen as "drug seeking"

OVer the course of 5 months, TKATC went from hydrocodone/acetaminophen to hydrocodone/ibuprofen to oxycodone/aspirin and is finally on 120, 2 mg per month of hydromorphone.

The doctor's willingness to change was based solely on a single emergency room visit.
