Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
not many will want to give swiy their spot this is a list of mushrooms that grow in tennesee. (assuming you want psilocybin containing mushtooms)
Tennessee Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus liquiritiae Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus luteus Gymnopilus sapineus Panaeolus fimicola Panaeolus papilionaceus var. papilionaceus Panaeolus subbalteatus Psilocybe cubensis Psilocybe caerulipes Look in cow pastures and furthermore, make sure you travel with a well experienced hunter or mycologist. Swim got to pick with John Allen once, never gotten that much in one go! |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
On a related topic, my dog is a Texan. My dog was wondering if it is likely if any strains of psilocybin mushrooms would be growing around this time (May-August) on a 20 acre cow and llama farm. Does anyone have a guess at how covered the field would be? And don't worry, my dog isn't dumb enough to go out, pick, and eat just any mushroom. My dog will only consume them if he is certain that they are psilocybins and not death caps or anything. garden of grey added 1 Minutes and 19 Seconds later... Quote:
If my dog took detailed pictures, do you think any friends online could give a fairly accurate guess over what they are? Last edited by KyleR22; 15-05-2008 at 03:05. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Quote:
Most likely culprits your dog will find will be psilocybe cubensis. Look it up on the web... regarding the picture, this has been covered before, this is not advised and even the most seasoned mycologist could miss-specify a mushroom by a picture, take a class in mycology, and go hunting with experienced hunters |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
He led swim to a patch of Ps. Cyanescens that was bigger than swims living room. swim got 1.5 lbs of dried material out of it.
You have a problem with the man panthers007? He seemed nice to swim, swim met him in seattle when he was hunting. |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
Let's just say you were quite fortunate. And lucky SWIM caught a good day for the P. Cyanescens. Bongo reports those as being the most visual of the little people. Bongo, however(despite Mush J's mess), was happy to find what can only be described as a landing-strip of P. Pelliculosa on the islands. About 1/4 mile wide - it went on for as far as one could walk. Many empty beer-boxes were filled. And hardly a dent was made.

That sounds like one of swims dreams. The Ps. Cyanescens were very nice and had a very good visual aspect. pity they are very hard for swim to cultivate in bulk.
![]() lol, your story sounds like a "field of dreams" ...if you pick them, they will come. |

A spore print is the only way to know for sure, even than it can be difficult

). It will tell swim how to do prints, and analyze them under the microscope to confirm the species. Stay away from sites telling you that you can identify mushrooms over the internet. Just gather some knowledge and start researching the scientific elements of mushrooms. It's really cool and it actually led swim to his fetish with picking \and selling them at the farmers market.

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
SWIM suggests learning about psilocybe weillii (sp) SWIM has a friend that is an avid shroom hunter of these specifically. They only grow in georgia. Googling will provide plentiful information concerning this hallucinogenic fungus.

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
A good 'shroomer knows to keep his favorite locations a closely guarded secret - whether it is edible or psychedelic mushrooms they hunt. This is done for two reasons - one is to attempt to have a good supply for the dinner-table or what-have-you. The other reason deals with environmental factors. When untrained people find mushrooms, they tend to pull them up roots and all, and damage the mycellium - the underground living spidery-web like growth that is the actual creature. And this mycellium can extend outward for miles underground. But often it is very localized and pulling up a few mushrooms is enough to cause long-term injury. The mushrooms themselves being the sex-organ of the mycellium. That's right - you're eating...well...
That's why a good 'shroomer carries a pair of scissors and walks very lightly on the Earth. Next Week: Lobsters - The Ocean-Going Scorpions! Yumm!! Dig in! |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
Cow pastures are the best bet from what swim has been told, he has always been told to look under cow patties or around them.
Phaze has never done mushrooms, thats a venue he hasnt travelled yet, but his friends mention a purple ring around the mushroom. Can anyone clarify/correct him. |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
Nope. There are so many different varieties of Psilocybe sp. that one needs to do some research. A purple ring is about as accurate a gauge as the old wives tale of putting a silver spoon with mushrooms you pick. If it doesn't turn black - they are safe to eat. Ha! Good way to kill your dinner guests, or have 'em need liver transplants.
Then there was a family from Indonesia that moved to California. There they found some mushrooms that were identical to ones they loved in Indonesia. So they collected them for dinner. Oops! They turned out to be Amanita Phalloides. Several of them died. Only through serious research, reading books, joining a local mushroom club, and/or taking classes at a college would one be safe in walking in blind. Or if one has a good friend who knows what they are doing. "There are old mushroom hunters. And there are brave mushroom hunters. But there are no old, brave mushroom hunters." |

Re: Any1 know where to find shrooms in Tennessee?
Panaeolus subbalteatus -
There is plenty if data out about these. Early summer is their season. And they are indigenous to Texas. And many other places. Google works. Now have SWIM take a course like samadhi did. Or similar. |
