Could someone explain why anxiolytics also provide pain relief?

Swim has noticed that valerian and xanax(alprazolam)provide a pretty effective amount of pain relief.Swim knows these drugs do treat anxiety but generally are not prescribed for pain relief, however swim has found this combination to treat pain almost aswell as buprenorphine.

Could someone explain in relatively simple terms why this is?

Re: Could someone explain why anxiolytics also provide pain relief?

A lot of these drugs provide alcohol like feelings and while SWIM doesn't know the exact mechanism that they work in he does know they interact with GABA receptors just like alcohol does so SWIM would suspect thats why they cause pain relief along with less anxiety, openness, forgetfulness and all the similar things associated with alcohol use. Sorry SWIM couldn't give a more exact answer but I know its because they act very similarly to alcohol which is why both cause numbness.
