Health - Not sure where to get the answer to this question

I'm 55 and been around the block more than once. Got three step kids in their 20's and a nephew I'm looking out for.

My daughter is 20 and while my nephew and I were removing her computer to install a new one, I found several chunks of white substance laying around her keyboard.

Shes a regular pot smoker and as a liberal I insisted if she was going to smoke it, better inside her room, then sneaking out into the street late at night. She's done coke before.

Anyway, my nephew whos' more in touch with the younger drug scene said he had no idea what it was. We tasted it, it wasn't coke. So I touched a match to it and it flared up instantly. Big flame, chemical burn with crackling sounds. We smelled the smoke. It wasn't crack.

Does anybody have any idea what this is? This is the second time I've found a small rock on her computer keyboard. It's not coke [I know all about that], it's not meth according to my nephew.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, just trying to keep one of my step children from harm if I can help. The wife doesn't want to know anything bad about her kids so I end up having to parent in the background quietly.

It could be a pain killer. Maybe a vicodin or oxy. Or it could just be some white chunks of something else totally unrelated to drugs. You never know. haha.

Its probably nothing. Opiates dont tend to light up like a match head. If it was Crack or meth youd know because after you smelled the smoke youd feel it. It might just be something other then drugs.

Smelling the smoke and tasting don't sound like very good methods of testing. Get yourself a drug testing kit.

All you've given us is that it is a "white substance" that "flared up instantly" and "made crackling sounds". Sorry, without further information I seirously doubt anyone on these boards can help you.

Also, is there any evidence to suggest the substance was psychoactive or are you just guessing? It's quite possible it could be something else. Why not ask her about it? If you are as liberal as you say then she shouldn't be too uncomfortable talking about it with you if it's a drug.

Still, pretty good way to lose the trust of your daughter. Offer to help move her computer then inspect it for drugs.

Best thing to do is to get a drug test, with which you can test whether the powder is one of the substances the test can check for. From your description it is cliose to impossible to guess. Please post here if you find out what it is or if the situation with your daughter develops.
