Why the hell wont this pod tea work??
Ok over the last 3 days my friend swimathon has consumed around 200 grams of gigantemum poppy pods (although that includes seed weight, which he removed before brewing). Don't get the guy wrong he was careful and started out with a 2 pod tea shared with his girlfriend swimantha. They both thought it was very pleasant and were both 'pretty sure' it wasn't placebo, but swimathon knows how deceptive placebo can be sometimes. As he wanted to have one good experience with the stuff before leaving it alone for a good couple of weeks he made another batch, same strength. No more effect. He kept upping the dose and over the course of 7-8 hours they consumed about 12 pods and still felt little more than slightly relaxed.
Yesterday swimathon decided to have another bash at it. After grinding about half of the remaining batch to a powder (to make sure it's uniform - no nasty suprises) he made a tea of ten grams. No significant effect. Upped to 15. No significant effect. By now he was desperate and got out the enema. 20g tea brewed and split into 2 halfs, both went up there (about an hour apart). No significant effect..
And tonight he began with a 5g tea (he wasn't gonna have any but his body is really aching for some reason). No help for the muscle pains. Made 15g, made 25g and finally made another 25g tea (which went up the pooper). All this was for swimathon alone.
Still feeling only a little relaxed!!
Bare in mind throughout these experiments he has always used a cafetiere (which many others use so it can't be that). He has tried using hot water (roughly 80 degrees C), water straight from the kettle, and boiling on the stove for a short time. He has used acid (citric and mallic, used separately) alkali (bicarb) and neither. He has always allowed it to brew for long periods of time and given it constant or frequent agitation.
Tonight he has combined it with a small amount of DXM (80mg) to see if it will potentiate it.
Before anyone says its the pods.. Your probably right, but i have before this time used 4 other suppliers with similar results. The only difference is that this time i've had enough to keep upping the dosage, where before i had used 8 pods at a maximum.
My supplier (i don't know if this counts as giving sources) seems to cater for more than just the flower arranging market.. For a start very few of his pods have stems.
Any ideas what's going on??
Thanks
