Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Some parents in Independence have been warned by school officials to watch out for something called "Happy Crack."

"Happy Crack" isn't actually a drug; it is a mix of powdered Kool-Aid and sugar that kids carry around in plastic bags.

The principal at Glendale Elementary stated in a letter sent to parents that kids have been buying, selling, eating and snorting the mixture in behavior that "mimics a drug culture."

A group of fifth-graders got in trouble for using it.

One teenager who said his younger brother is one of the kids who took the substance to school told KCTV5 News, "They try to snort it like crack, and it's not very cool and they could get in trouble."

Independence police spoke with the fifth-graders involved about the dangers of real drugs.

Administrators gave the students a warning.

Crazy kids, snorting kool-aid and sugar, like if their Ritalin wasn't enough boost in the morning.
Didn't know a person could snort crack!

Uh no one snorts crack, they should have been more correct and said "They try to snort it like coke, and it's not very cool and they could get in trouble."

Re: Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

Give 'em something wholesome to replace it. Like candy cigarettes! Remember those? No kids got in trouble at school walking around with them when I was a kid.

Oh course, Play-Doctor* kits from the 5 & 10 Cent Store had plastic syringes and sugar pills! Shriek!

* Not that kind. Those probably come with a blow-up doll now.

Re: Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

"Independence police spoke with the fifth-graders involved about the dangers of real drugs."

I can see exactly how the speech would have gone. Teaching children that drugs have certain dangers. Period. Not telling them that taking a certain amount, overdoing it, impurities etc. have a bearing on the dangers. The result? The ones who think the drugs are dangerous won't do them and will grow up to be preachy advocates of the war on drugs and how they ruin your life and turn you into scum. The ones who ignore the warnings will think they're OK taking any amount and turn into the kind of people that the war on drugs highlight when they need an example of lives ruined by drugs.

Then there's the people that educate themselves that feel sick reading about this kind of thing.

Re: Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

I remember those just say no speeches from gradeschool.Hah they constantly gave us horror stories of how drug dealers would do things like make you sit on trapped seats in their cars that spikes came out of if you didn't pay up.Seriously Officer Friendly told us this.

Re: Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

Real helpful at giving life information these police officers. I remember one at uni tried to endear himself to us by saying "cor that skunk you lot smoke these days is strong stuff. Not like my day". Or some such bullshit. Knobjockey.

Re: Kids In Trouble For 'Happy Crack'

I wonder how informative an anti-drug speech would be, when ti's given by someone that uses the word crack without even knowing what it is.

I remember when I had DARE classes. The cop said that binge drinking isn't that bad if you do it when your 21 or older, and only on the weekends. But the reason weed is illegal is because it'll destroy your health, your mind, and your morals.

Yes, let's encourage pretend drinking and pretend smoking instead.
