Amphetamine > Relationships?

Swibfs essentially chosen his amphetamines over the last few relationships even with that realization he's somewhat indifferent. Its a subtle and slow deterioration of the relationship rather than the tweaked trashy abusive variety. Usually the complaints revolve around the lack of post-intercourse sleep, a general disconnection from emotion and reality. With Swibf in/out of his own world he doesn't see much potential for a sustained traditional relationship. Is it necessarily a negative that he isn't upset by this, although he does have the inclination to think it should be impact-worthy.

Any Swiys encounter similar realizations concerning their use? While Swiy probably wouldn't have had much genuine problem with their use becoming relatively more important than something else in their life was there and/or is there something that would prompt Swiy to consider giving amphetamines up?

Swibf doesn't feel like he will make such a decision of feel that it would be necessary any time soon, but the lengthy convo he just now concluded with an ex incited a bit of curiosity.

That really is a tough question.

On one hand, looking at the brain chemistry, amphetamines will induce the positive emotions that are natural indicators of health and viability. Indeed, I believe studies have shown that those who use dopaminergic substances falsely believe that they are in better physical health than they in fact are. So in this sense, it's a case of artificially satisfying neural circuitry that would otherwise seek out satisfaction naturally e.g, with a relationship -- arguably a bad thing.

However, someone who would otherwise be diagnosed with OCD won't get such a diagnosis if their symptoms don't cause them distress. That is, some people with OCD may find that their disorder actually helps them in their field of work and doesn't interfere with other areas of life. But this notion is a little bit unfair because it's rather difficult for someone using amphetamines to admit they are causing problems when they fulfill the circuitry described above.

So I guess my answer is: only if/when the consequences of amp usage starts to concern Swibfs. You say they don't really, but it sound like they are beginning to. Also take a look at this from the file archive.

Re: Amphetamine > Relationships?

Swibfs content with the situation and abundantly aware of the various aspects influencing or resulting from. He wasn't confused as to why relationships lost previous importance, was more of a probing of the communities experiences or reactions to a similar realization/conclusion.
