THC content of resin.

Gram for gram whats more potent the bud or the resin produced from smoking the bud. This would be assuming that all of the bud smoked is of uniform potency.

Please dont respond with swiY's experiance's, only fact based info on this one.

Thanks!

http://www.canorml.org/healthfacts/smokestudy.html

Quote:
The California NORML/MAPS Smoking Device Study

[Article by Dale Gieringer printed in MAPS Newsletter, 1996; revised Nov., 1999]

Contrary to popular impression, waterpipes don't necessarily protect smokers from harmful tars in marijuana smoke, according to a study sponsored by California NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and MAPS
This article approaches the problem from the opposite direction - how much THC gets wasted by various smoking methods, and how this can cause more harm from supposedly "safer" methods like waterpipes and filtered joints.

It says:

Quote:
Like the waterpipes, the cigarette filter also performed worse than the unfiltered joint, by about 30%. Researchers speculate this is because cannabinoids are exceptionally sticky and adhere to other solids. Hence, any filtration system that picks up particulates is likely also to screen out cannabinoids.
Based on this, I can see how the resin might have a higher THC content. It's not any sort of proof though; more a possible mechanism.

I really don't think you're going to get anyone posting who's done quantitative chemical analysis on their resin... which sounds like what you're asking for.

But even if someone had done this, there's absolutely no reason to expect SWIyour resin would have the same THC content, even if SWIYou were smoking weed of the same uniform potency as the analyst. The reason is that resin potency is going to vary a lot, based on the size of the pipe/bowl, whether it's being water-cooled, and also probably based to a large extent on smoking technique (whether you just torch the bowl, or lightly cherry it).

Re: THC content of resin.

Does "resin" mean "tar" in this topic?

Re: THC content of resin.

Hah, I don't know. I was answering as though it did, but I guess calling cannabis tar "resin" is more an American thing... If resin means the resin of the flowering tops, I think some figures might be out there... it will still vary drastically from strain to strain though, and probably varies with growing conditions as well.

The THC content is low. The noxious tar content (degraded cannabinoids) is high= sleepiness and headaches.

SWIM completely disagree's with this statement (from person experience, yet not exactly related to the thread).

Re: THC content of resin.

It probably varies based on how the bowl collects resin and perhaps the quality of the weed smoked. Puff has definitely gotten extremely high off of resin, so there can certainly be a lot of THC trapped in it.

Swim has to agree with SwiMatt The Funk on the same basis.

Would the only way to find out the certain cannabinoid levels in the resin be a GC/MS? Swim understands that the levels would vary from sample to sample but the high seem to be quite different from a standard cannabis high.

Re: THC content of resin.

swim believes it would have to varey as to age of the resin aswel as the quality and origin of it! swims friend smoked resin built up for over 6months for a cpl of days, and reported that headaches and feeling high were a definate, but it was a different high to usual!!, swim also wonders if smoking wet/damp resin has much difference to resin that has been left out to dry! as when wet/damp resin is smoked, it sparks and crackles as it burns it!
