Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
Im all for drug law reform, but you may as well be asking someone from the coors family if they know of a good cheap weak beer. not that the horse urine coors sells as beer could be misconstruued as "good".

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
hahaha im with ya all the way there...........As for the main question, i think it should be legalized never mind decriminalized. Even though getting the plant decriminalized would be the first step to see how society would react from this. It would help the economy not having to put decent, hard working people in jail for a large possession or a harvesting operation...........Lets be honest with ourselves and think about all the times we've got in trouble when swiy was stoned? Now lets ask that same question again but switch weed with alcohol!

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
I voted "no". This is because decriminalisation doesn't really answer my main problem with drugs, which is the criminal gangs that go with it. Decriminalisation still leaves supply in the hands of criminals. Legalization, on the other hand, puts supply in the hands of government and business. Would I prefer decriminalisation to prohibition? Probably, but legalisation is the real answer.

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
Legalisation will represent that the government approves. The governemnt will be more than willing to approve as more taxes/revenue can be collected. However the income collected and to spend on make the citizen to recover is more and thus not profitable.
Might as well banning it. In any place, if there is a demand and there will be a supply. The only intersection where demand meet supply..is where quantity of good is sold at the price of those who willing to buy. The only people who are willing to run the risk lives on the streets. If they are not the people that you look for when SWIY need something illegal..may SWIM know who do you look for..? |

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
It is pretty well known by most in government that legalizing marijuana would create revenue from taxes, but still there has been no decriminalization. SWIM believes this is because those with the power to decriminalize, are for the most part, elected officials. So there will be no decriminalization as long as those in power believe that the populous at large is not in favor of it.

Swim says bring back the old school (relatively) low THC content pot of the sixties and seventies that you could actually smoke a fat joint of without tapping out, lol.

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
In swims opinion lots of people would like to see pot legalised. But they're too scared to say anything because they're more concerned about their reputation.
Its no longer about being true to one's convictions, image is everything (read ego) especially when you're talking about politicos. They want the job more than they want to do what they know is right. Vested power can be taken as easily as it's given, perhaps they should remember that too. |

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
Would happily settle for a grow your own decrim model. Legalisation would be the ultimate goal. SWIMs main aim is to convert criminal into civil convictions regarding cannabis. One cannabis conviction fucks with your travel and job prospects big time.
Change from criminal justice based to health and education/treatment based system. |

SWIM thinks that cannabis legalization would be baaad. Think of all the regulations. Think of the taxes! It would surely still be illegal to grow, like tobacco.

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
If cannabis were legalised the repercussions for other drugs would be immense. Regulation doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

SWIM wishes that all drug laws could be abolished, that people would start telling the truth about drugs. SWIM thinks that misinformation and naivete cause many deaths which are then used to strengthen the bullshit that caused them. (sorry if this is stupid, swim is having troub le thinking) |

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
The taxes would have to be balanced in order to compete with the black market. The quality of the cannabis would be a lot better with more variety and more bargains. I don't even think it's illegal to grow tobacco (why would you bother anyway?) and I don't see how any country that would legalise cannabis would ban people from growing a few plants in their homes. You can already do this in parts of Switzerland despite cannabis being illegal officially.

SWIM also read that the FDA wish to make tobacco illegal to grow the US unless the grower has a permit. SWIM thinks the way it is done in parts of Switzerland is great. SWIMs cousin lives there and says that although cannabis is illegal there she can freely smoke it and usually not be bothered by anyone. She said that people selling it are sometimes fined or spend a couple nights in jail. SWIM thinks the taxes would be steep, although people can buy from the black market many are still greatly suppressed by the law, and would rather pay a premium so they need not take the risk. Although tobacco is legal to smoke (and grow apparently ) it is still taxed quite highly, and the contraband tobacco is much much cheaper. (At least in the uk)SWIM thinks he should be allowed to do what he wants to himself under the umbrella of the law. |

Re: Vote for cannabis decriminalization
Why cannabis?
Many illegal drugs are much safer than cannabis. Why not them? It really annoys me when cannabis users say that only cannabis should be legalised. They are even worse than the people who think it should be illegal. They spend their time giving out about the unfair treatment they get, but would happily extend the same unfair treatment towards the users of other drugs (whose drug of choice could be far safer than cannabis). Having to work around unfair drug-laws themselves, you'd think they'd be less ignorant than the general public. ![]() Last edited by Piano_man; 06-08-2009 at 18:49. |
