Journal - I've been clean from crack for (almost) 60 days!

SWIM told me.....

I can't freakin believe it! altough i am a stunch athiest, I decided that I needed some help from some people who knew something about being clean and sober; ovbiously somethign I had no clue about. I did everything asked of me and this saturday will be my 60th clean day. I am like a whole new person; I can take a piss test and not worrying about it being dirty! that's like the neatest thing on earth to me.

I have been hitting meetings [Presumably NA/AA meetings - Dickon] pretty hard, i had a day off yesterday and went to 4 meetings. i have been to 2 today and I will go to another later on, my homegroup meeting.

i CAN HONEATLY say that the obsession that i used to have to pick up is gone. do I think about it from time to time? sure. i would be lying otherwise. but something is just different... the thoughts don't last, i think it's silly now, and when I do get urges I pick up the phone and call someone.

Am glad to hear things are going well~ 60 days is a big accomplishment! Of course everyone finds different things that work for them, but it sounds like you have definitely found what it is that works for you..

Do let us know how things are going, feel free to continue posting updates in this thread if you like. If you don't mind me asking, what were someone's drugs of choice? Feel free to chip in any tips about staying sober, as from personal experience and the statements of many others, it seems early recovery is the most difficult- those first days and weeks can be really tough.. Do you have a sponsor? Do you attend AA/NA, or other 12-step or non-12 step groups? Interested in knowing more about what worked well for you and how you're doing!

Congratulations on (almost) 60 days. The reason that 60 days is a milestone in 12-step programs is because cravings and use patterns tend to be cyclic, especially in the early going (30, 60, 90 days, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year).

Now is the a good time to be especially vigilant; it's when most slips occur. Make sure you hang in there to get your coin or keyring, and set your sights on 90 days - one day at a time.

Congrats!! It's always so good to hear when people are doing well. Swim found getting to 30 the hardest, that first month. 60 days is great! And of course as FC said one must certainly be vigilant and keep up one's commitment to their recovery. Congratulations, and love and well wishes to you both!!

i go to meetings everyday but inhouse meetings.. I dont' have a car. still clean. I am going to try to get my chip next week sometime, well keyring. I put that bad boy to use!

60 days free of any form of drug addiction if that is what swiy is reffering to is a big thing for any addict. Just remaining clean from one day to the next is an achievement so good on yer hope you can carry it on and please let us know what swiy was addicted too.

really just crack. I actually went from doing no drugs for my entire life to being addicted to crack in like 2 weeks, no in betweens.

Congrats on the 60 days!!! Swim is also fighting the good fight and she can tell you 60 days is quite a milestone. After well a setback a month ago she is also working on her own recovery plan. She does have 30 days yesterday so she hope to attain 60 as well.

Congrats ai!! It's so wonderful to see people staying clean. Congrats on the 5 months!! It's amazing how in early recovery it seems so daunting, I know for swim even a week clean was such an accomplishment, and then step by step you find yourself with months and then years under your belt!! Congrats, keep it up!! How do you feel??

he is finding him self becoming more of my old self. he used to own a company, a pretty successful one at a very early age (20) and he was extremely sure of myself, very confident. he left the company becuase of personal reasons and he sent in a 2 and a half year funk, in which swim found the joy of crack.

he;'snot just clean, he's starting to become my old self again. he's making money, i'm getting in shape, i like it.

as funny as it sounds, crack was the best thing that ever happened to swim. it was the wake up call to light the fire under swim's ass to get his crap back in order and get his butt in gear in life.

hey cool im at about 5 months too! swim has been clean for almost 4 years but staying sober seems to be much harder! of chourse swim never got hooked on crack but has tried freebase a few times. coke was swims doc...

had a pretty rough day yesterday. i won't get into it but someone did something that hurt my feelings pretty bad. and it was funny. I didn't think about using. I mean it crossed my mind and i realized that if I did use it would be just to make the other person feel bad, becuase I really didn't want to.

well spare change to giveyou the whole story i have relasped about 10 times in the past 3 and a half years on alcohol. the reason why i try not to drink is because im a alocholic and once i get past five shots i dont stop until thrity. its not a good things since for most peope getting drunk is a huge trigger. so i try to stay away from any mind altaring substances. so if our serious it doesnt work out good or if you being sarcastic yeah i know its not a good thing...lol

yeah i pretty much figured that it had gone bad. Most people become cross addicted. even if they never used alcohol before.
swim refrains from using everything for the last 6 months but before that he tried using just alcohol just ghb, and just pot none of it worked.

personally swim has never had the opportunity to see what it would be like just to drink for a year or so. swim gets drunk and then smokes pot and then so on and so on. So its pretty much out of the question for this swim.
