If he's not affected by Codeine/Morphine, will he be affected by oxy?

My friend's friend got a prescription of Oxycontin and Tylenol 3 pills from his doctor since he got his wisdom teeth out. He only uses the T3s so has given SWIM and my friend the oxy, but my friend is not affected at all to codeine and morphine so would oxy get him high at all??

I know it's an opiate but does it chemically work in the same way on the body and mind as Cod/Morph?

Thanks

He isn't affected by Morphine? God thats a strange one.

Codeine must be metabolized by the liver in to Morphine. This happens by the O-demethylation. This is carried out by enzymes in the liver, the CYP2D6 enzyme, which converts at a rate of about 5-10%. However, some individuals do not have this enzyme and thus get little analgesic effect, they get some from codeine-6-glucuronide, as shown here
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11092114

Oxycodone, whilst very similar in structure, doesn't need to be broken down to become active, it's already in a pharmacologically active state, and will acts as a weak agonist at mu, kappa, and delta opioid receptors. F t website "for the non-opiate tolerated a 10-15mg oral dose should be sufficient. Insufflated or rectal would be 5-10 mg."

It should work, however if he's never been affect by morphine...

What was the dose SWIM's friend took of morphine?

EDIT: Oxy is stronger than morphine, just so you know

well, my friend doesen't know the dose he took of morphine since he was able to press a button that automatically administered into him during an operation, so i'm guessing it was pretty high. But he said he just fell to sleep without feeling much.
Although he does get slightly lightheaded when he takes either of them.

I have another question: My friend thinks and insists one can get high without crushing the pills (and calls ppl who do crush them druggies). SWIM does not agree with this since he has heard that the rapid-release of the chemical is what triggers the high. What's true? False?
Thanks again.

SWIM had the same thing, known as patient controlled analgesia, and its a very small dose, 1mg per button press, with a button press available every 5 mins. so it'd take alot of button presses every 5mins to get high. Sound like it affects him, lightheadedness is a side affect

Oxycontin is a continuous release pill, it'll spread the dose out over 10-12 hours, so yes to get high the pill needs to be crushed.
