Ultram [Tramadol] Questions

Well SWIM has searched the forum, and other experience sites, and still can't find the right answer.

Recently SWIM got his hand on Ultram ER which contains 300MG of Tramadol. SWIM weighs roughly 145 lbs. The dosage's that SWIM has read up on might be too high or low, especially considering that the pill itself has 300MG of Tramadol in it.

Should SWIM split the pill or what?

Also note that these are Time Release Capsules.

If the one who isn`t you is opiate naive it would probably be a good idea to split the pill.
When Swim tried Tramadol for the first time, it was the first time he tried opiates also, he took 100mg and it was enough for him. 150mg would probably be also nice for Swim, but 300mg would be waaay over the line back then. Swim was around 65kg.

well the pills SWIM has arent made to be split. SWIM heard that this is quite dangerous, and one can OD if to much is taken at the wrong time. They come in time release capsules... so SWIM doesnt know what to do, or how to take them.

Regular prescribed dosages range from 50mg-600mg so it seems safe to consume that amount.tramadol is usually reported to being one of the less potent opiates so the chances of being overwhelmed don't seem to large.

Tramadol often causes seizures when taken at high doses. 600mg is too high, especially for beginners! I believe the recommended dose is no more than 400mg per day.

Be careful - the risk of seizure is very real. There are many reports of tramadol seizures on Erowid. See this DF thread for more info: An overview on the dangers of tramadol abuse

In SWIM's experience, 100mg of regular (non-time release capsules) is about right. He did 200mg once and did not like it. SWIM doesn't know how the time release form would affect the dosage, but cutting the pill in half sounds like a good idea to him.

By the way, be aware that tramadol takes a fairly long time to kick in fully...about an hour and a half. It is quite long lasting though.

there's nothing detrimental to a lab rat's health by crushing then consuming like that

Well the pills are Time Release capsuls, which only release a certain amount of the drug at certain amounts of time, preventing the medicinal user from getting any euphoric feelings, and in the end only relieving severe pain.

The recreational user would like to get the "euphoria" etc, etc. SWIM has been trying to find a way to take these, and get the recreational effects rather then downing a pill and getting absolutely nothing. SWIM has taken the though of taking 2 at once, but SWIM has also taken the thought of getting a seizure, and waking up with holes in SWIMS tongue...

Swim would recommend cutting it in half and take the film off one half of it

tramadol is most useful (abusable) in time release, due to its pharmokinetics.

hmm here was the research that led to the earlier post in this thread

"Doses range from 50–400 mg daily, with up to 600 mg daily when given IV/IM. The formulation containing APAP contains 37.5 mg of tramadol and 325 mg of paracetamol, intended for oral administration with a common dosing recommendation of one or two tabs every four to six hours." -Wikipedia

The same article pointed that doses 700mg and higher was when seizures were reported. Was unaware that it could be as low as 400mg.

I'll definitely defer to the knowledge in the tramadol wiki (no sarcasm). Please disregard earlier posts in this thread made by me.


And to the person who gave negative rep since SWIM said that pulverizing is a valid means for consuming pills, I would reconsider the next time SWIY is so quick to judge a post, or at the least post better reasoning for the neg rep.

Swim's doses of generic Tramadol started at 100mg, but increased about 50mg each sitting. Swim stopped at 300mg. It was swim's ceiling, and only negative increased after that dose.

Swim's friend started to nod on 100mg with no previous lifetime exp. with opioids of any kind.

Swim has heard of many negative exp. after 300mg, including seizure. Erowid confirms this.

Swim also knows people who get no effect from Tramadol, regardless of dose and opioid tolerance. Swim's personal experience says to start around 150mg for a mild tolerance.
