Health - can marijuana really mess up someone's mind? (SWIMs cousin)

since she started smoking weed she now acts like a crack head does for crack almost but with with marijuana. even a buddy of SWIMs has said her way of thinking is fucked up like how she thinks and it might be cuz of bud. besides that i know shes done cocaine maybe 3 times in the past 6 months or so.

could it be because of her brain chemistry something got messed with? or maybe shes just stupid on top of it.

SWIM has done so many things in his life and is a very intelligent person. but in comparison to ehr its how she acts and thinks. shes very ignorant in the definition of the word. just the way she thinks is fucked up. i really don't think she should be smoking weed.



SWIM is just asking this because of recent things that she has said to SWIM like he is something he rly isn't and he is pretending to be somebody when she lives 200 miles away from SWIM and barely sees him really so

she will also rant about the meaning of life and religion and i hate when ppl push their ideas with nothing to back it up. from this what i mean is she says all these things and hasn't read anything but taken 1 or 2 classes she did not even finish i believe. one time when she finally shut up i asked her if shes read the bible or anything else. she has it IN HER ROOM and hasn't even read it. i then told her go read some shit some religions and philosophy books hen think about it and make up ur mind and then have an intelligent conversation with SWIM instead of just blabbing ur bullshit theory without letting any1 else say anything and when they do telling them they are wrong.



SWIM just thinks her thought process is fucked up and doesn't know if its from smoking too much weed every day for too long or maybe just doing cocaine those couple times or if its hormones. but SWIM is writing this right after she wrote a rant telling SWIM hes someone that he really is not in reality and saying his alias Silent Snow which he writes poetry and lyrics under is him searching for an identity when he already has one. and it really tripped SWIM out how she could think things so ignorant and just plain nuts when she has nothing to back it up because SWIM has always acted normal and happy the same he always has been for a good while.

could weed have altered her brain chemistry because SWIM doesnt think she was always like this. or what the hell could it be? SWIM just posted this in the MJ forum because all she does is smoke mass marijuana

everyone reacts differently to any given substance, she will either learn to hang, or, given time, should be encouraged to quit and move on to other activities.

in swim's experience most people knock off for the first year or so of smoking.

no offense but she just sounds like an arrogant bitch. Did she just start college? I LOVE philosophy but most of the philosophy majors that I knew in college behaved similarly. You comprehend one essay by Descartes and you think you understand the world and everything in it. This is also common among people in their first year or two of college; if they were fairly successful, that is. It just really seems to go to some people's heads. I really dont think it has anything to do with the weed. Wait till she fails a couple of classes or gets ripped to pieces by a decent professor and that might turn her around a bit.

SWIM thinks ya nailed it lol she does feind for weed like SWIM has seen ex friends go for rock and such, i really think she shouldn't smoke bud anymore or atleast cut down. when SWIM comes to visit the 1st thing is ge some weed with her. SWIM takes desoxyn & xanax and doesn't smoke as much as SWIM used to, maybe 1-2x weekly but even when i wa a card holding STONER i wasn't like she is.

when SWIM would say "lets just relax at home and watch a movie or something" his answer would be "but SWIMMM we need weed to do that" and SWIM would respond "uhh speak for yourself SWIM will just take half a bar and kick it" she has only done xanax before and cocaine both very very very rarely. probably only gets a bar of xanax from SWIM and he visits rarely as well once every couple months.

she does seem to be an arrogant bitch probly just an arrogant bitch that smokes too much and ya i think she has read 1 thing or heard a couple lectures and think she knows the world. funny thing she rarely goes to her classes cuz she smokes so much. SWIM ist saying its the weed but her with the weed.

It's weird that so often those who study philosophy can be so arrogant at the beginning of their study. Surely anyone who has read and considered philosophy in any real depth would be constantly doubting rather than rock sure - in fact it is mildly worrying that she is acting like this. I hesitate to say this because I really don't know much about her or, indeed, a great deal about psychology, but aren't these sort of symptoms indicative of psychosis? Not sure on this one, but worth considering.

This may or may not work but placebo effects are more common among those with certian mental issues IMHO.A quick check to see if shes crazy tell her you just got some super potent bud (if shes a poly substance abuser tell her its laced with pcp) then smoke some crapy generic street bud with her and see how she acts.
If she wigs out and says she sees god your friends got some issues,if she acts "normal" then shes just another arogent person trying to prove how smart they are.

Haha swim had a pothead friend last year at school who started smoking more and more and eventually dropped out of school to work full time on his "thesis" that was based around the idea that we are all Jesus. SWIM almost held himself back from telling his friend how stupid he is. Almost. He thought he had stumbled on some brilliant new field of thought, when really he had never read ANY philosophy and was basically creating some confused bastardization of existentialist ideas. To much of anything can start to distort the mind, especially psychoactives. Smurf would tell her to start cutting her use or stop\take a break, he suspects that once they do take a break(2-3+ months), they'll definitely notice there thought process changes.

lmao thats what i said, but SWIM is actually a well preforming honorall student in NYU, and after a few years of smoking she noticed these things getting worse and worse. Also SWIM started to get like hand tremors. just random shakes... uncontrollable.

No-one needs doctrines or philosophy books in order to come up with their own ideas on religion and the meaning of life. To suggest that someone cannot form an opinion upon their most basic beliefs without reading the bible is absolutely ludicrous. Disbelief would be the default to someone who's never been exposed to belief.

Maybe your friend isn't as dumb as you think. A little bit scatter-brained perhaps, but looking past the futility of other peoples' pious preachings is the first step towards finding true reason.

What I think he means is that her criticisms of other modes of thought are based on ignorant assumptions. No one is saying that you have to have read the bible to come up with your own belief system, what we are saying is that you have to have read the bible or studied it through second hand synopses if you are going to criticise the doctrine with in it.

A second hand synopsis can qualify as almost anything as the bible is deeply embedded within western culture. If categorized as fiction however, which IMO it very much is, it has no real relevance whatsoever because no matter how decent whatever morals it may preach be (and we all know about the paradoxes), the only useful morals it promotes are humane morals that exist in people anyway. Its other teachings border along the lines of social control. Personally, I don't want to delve through a catalogue of metaphors and funny little stories in order to make sense of things. I struggle to understand why others do. Perhaps this is what the cousin is beginning to feel but has no way of explaining it. A diamond in the rough perhaps.

if she just started, and is being a fiend, it's (as much as swim hate's to say this) probably her just trying to get that junky image, and doing it as a social act. or it's just so fresh she can't get enough, possibly blowing it out of porportion (which imo, weed's way overated), or a mix of both. swim has found himself slipping into something like this, but while sinking into the begginings of an opiate addiction, he's calming down and putting everything into perspective.

as for religion, speak what you know, and if you dont have all the answers, start with one at a time, taking small chunks and eventually you'll have enough pieces of the puzzle to fit it togeather, incomplete, but a logical guess. and don't look out to disprove people, but give them a different perspective, even pointing out your flaws. who knows, the person you're arguing with might have the piece you've been looking for, so don't be afraid to listen either.

I believe in a question like this age has alot to do with it. Also i believe there is no definite one answer, simply because we do not know this person nor what they are going threw on a normal day to day basis.

Possibly this would have occured without the use of drugs, maybe she is finding herself and losing herself on the way.

Time will tell, maybe she can be a better person after the change, I wouldn't go as far as to say her mind is messed up. I know poly substance abusers that have been on MANY different drugs constantly threw out there life, but marijuana should not cause any long term effects IMO. If she does have mental illness her mind might recognize it alot easier with the deeper thought pattern induced by MJ.

Give her some time and let her work it out on her own, don't concern yourself with how much of a douche she is being, if there wasnt douche bags out there the word wouldnt exist, someone has to fit the definition.
