Toronto police sweep results in nearly 300 drug, prostitution arrests
Quote:
Toronto police have wrapped up what they are calling Project Revival — a major crackdown on drugs and prostitution in Regent Park and Moss Park.
Officers in 51 Division made almost 300 arrests in the six-week campaign which targeted drug dealers, prostitution and panhandling.
According to police, it was community members who came up with the three priorities for the police to focus on.
Det.-Sgt. Howie Page said residents were eager to help and the sweep has had a huge impact on the drug trade in the neighbourhoods.
"By week six we couldn't find a drug dealer. On the first day of the project we found drug dealers on each and every corner of the targeted area ... so there was a huge difference," said Page.
Police said they'll look at what they can do to continue to combat the "street disorder and crime within [those] neighbourhoods."
