Question Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

SWIM just got prescribed 100mg of Tramadol twice daily for my chronic backpain.

How would that work to combine with GHB/GBL? Anyone have experience of that?

Just curious...

SWIM didnt find any definitive answer using the searchengine.

SWIM is ambivalent in what he thinks of Tramadol. Is it a depressant? or works as stimulant? It sure feel a little speedy in moderate amounts(100-200mg).

Sinc. Kummin

EDIT: If not combining is possible, anyone with some pharmacology knowledge know how long SWIM atleast should wait after last Tramadol dose, before he takes a 2ml dose of GBL?

Tramadol is an atypical opioid in that it has SNRI activity.
At doses prescribed and after one has been on tramadol for a bit (i.e. has somewhat of a tolerance) a pink elephant had no problems with the mixture. It was taking this for sleep though and just went to bed, so never gave me a report on the experience.

Re: Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

Safe at low doses, SWIM has tried, but one theoretical thing to be wary of is that both GHB and tramadol lower ones seizure treshold. So don't take both of them at large doses or you'll propably end up convulsing, as GBL or GHB alone and with cannabis has given SWIM twitches.

SWIM thanks for the quick responses.
He will probably not combine them, but he wanted to know about the possibilities and eventual dangers.

Have you got any references for GHB lowering the seizure threshold? I've always thought it increases it in the same way benzos do.

Re: Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

Tramadol products in excessive doses, either alone or in combination with other CNS depressants, including alcohol (or in this case GHB), are a major cause of drug-related deaths.

Re: Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

An acquaintance of mine found this to be a fine combination. Due to use of stronger opiates tramadol alone has little noticable effect in this individual, but 100-300mg tramadol combined with G made for an apparantly marvellous euphoria. Tramadol seemed to play the role of a stimulant in this context, allowing larger doses of G to be taken while rasing the OD threshold. At no point did clonic jerking or unconsciousness occur.

Tis quite a risky thing to attempt recreationally; tramadol can lower the seizure threshold and G is known for it's tendency to induce absence seizures. The combination of G with stimulants frequently results in absence seizures due to the higher doses of G taken. My acquaintance suffered no ill through, desipite using this combination on a number of occasions.

I still wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

My ferret has gotten some noticable respritory system depression from larger doses of tramadol, and much more so when in combination with codeine, he imagines the situation would be similar with ghb. Something to watch out for.

Re: Tramadol for pain possible to combine with GHB?

GHB is routinely used in the study of absence seizures in mice and rats because it can consistently induce them.

Just google 'GHB absence seizure' and you'll find multiple examples of this.
