Taking Melatonin During the Day

SWIM realized that if one takes melatonin during daylight hours, its effects are MUCH more pronounced and swim found it next to impossible not to fall asleep. swim also reads about experiences with melatonin and having very vivid dreams; this effect becomes even more pronounced when swim took his daytime melatonin nap. it was as if his brain was in fully awake; functioning mode, so he was lucidly able to sort through his thoughts and it felt like a profound trip into the inner mind.

swim thinks that the effects are much stronger since melatonin is naturally produced at nightfall, so when it is taken during the day, it totally fucks with one's bodily system (similar to jet lag, perhaps?) in any case, swim found it to be the best way to take a 'quick nap' during the day and found it to be a somewhat fun experience with little to no brain fog afterwards.

Sounds interesting and very useful. Could SWIY mention the total time elapsing from the time of ingesting to being fully roused after the nap and capable to be a suitable contributor to society?

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

Doesn't it kind of defeat the purpouse of melatonin though? This is something that works on the natural day/night sleep cycle. Is this a high dosage or just small dosages throughout the day?

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

i'm talking about using 300 micrograms, 500 at most (one-time dose).

swim has experienced this a few times, and it seems that swim is able to be functional after 15 minutes of sleep, or two hours of sleep.

first time swim experienced this he accidentally took a melatonin instead of a xanax (similar size pills in the same jar) in the middle of class, he was unable to resist the temptation to fall asleep (and this never happens otherwise) 15 minutes passed, he came to, and felt totally fine and functional.

i don't think this messes with your body's regular sleep cycle, unless of course this is something one would get into the habit of doing (not likely). i'm sure there isn't much for study on this, but swim was able to go to sleep that night without a problem

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

Read somewhere that melatonin at night decreases risks of tumours while taken during the day, it increases the risks of tumours....

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

realy? swim never heard that before. seems unlikely though. i mean the body is experiencing melatonin either way. doesnt make sense that the time would make any difference.

on another note though. melatonin has never worked for swim. he has to take xanax on occasion to fall asleep. and from the dream aspect of melatonin, he's glad it didnt work. swim HATES dreaming.

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

Another questions is, wether melatonine is orally bio-available or not. I doubt that, looking at it's tryptamine structure. But from what you're saying it should be...

Interesting, though.

There is no doubt that exogenous melatonin affects endogenous melatonin production, and that it can phase advance or delay the circadian rhythm. I think that would suggest that it is orally bioavailable.

See thread here ----> Melatonin and the Circadian Rhythm (Overview / Reference Guide)

I've yet to do more with it, but in a few months will have time to finish the job.

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

Interesting topic. So the bioavalability questions is now answered...

[OFF TOPIC]
Beside the use we're talking about here, Melatonine is made responsible by some researchers for the fast maturing of children in these days. The equation is simple:
more light -> less melatonine -> less slow on-going development of the body -> prematurity etc.
I don't think it's that easy but this pretty adds to the studies condoned...

Re: Taking Melatonin During the Day

strange, SWIM has read that if taken orally and with the exposure of light the body will just decompose it and thus it would not be active (at least as melatonin but maybe as 5-htp)
