An Adderall Sunrise.

Swim has been using adderall to stay awake now and then. He finds that using adderall periodically through out the night, that he can get a lot done (study, clean, ect.).

Swim has wondered the health effects of this? Of course no sleep isn't good, but how might this effect swim in the long run?

Bottom line, Swim would like to know do the negatives out weigh the positives? Also, what specific negatives would occur (e.g. irritability and loss of coordination)?

thanks a lot-
BearClaw

kaczynski is a decent SWIMmer.
Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

The more SWIY uses this and continues to be deprived of sleep, the more strung out SWIY will get. If SWIY gets too strung out for too long, things like irritability, aches and pains, shakiness, nervousness will all be present and can be really tedious to endure..so if SWIY is using this in moderation, then there shouldn't be any long term effects

Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

Yeah, Swim recently did a first hand experiment, where he deprived himself from sleep for a few days with the help of adderall... Every effect that was named was experienced to the eighth degree. It was a learning experience for sure, so swim keeps to the one night ventures. So he doesn't get really strung out, so as you say, its not that bad?

thanks for the quick answer.

Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

swim has noticed the effects of adderall binges firsthand. her skin was much different...suddenly acne appeared, blotchy redness, a yellowish tint at times (hardly noticeable), and hair got a little straw-like. swim realized this was her body's way of telling her she must chill out with the addys...or else other people are gonna notice too.

the worst thing for swim is the involuntary jaw clenching/grinding, bad taste in mouth no matter what, and acidy stomach. swim finds it hard to just take an adderall without it leading to a binge. and stays up til 6am researching , and goin nuts over drug forums.

swim cringes at the long term effects of recreational adderall useage. amphetamines without a doubt put unnecessary strain on one's heart since it's a stimulant. the bruxism (teeth clenching) could cause long term damage too. swim is gonna take an educated guess and say that the acidic volume in her tummy may one day lead to an ulcer.

Wow, Swim often finds himself doing the same thing...

The late night research is probably the worst. Swim will set off to finish a term paper and ends up on google, DF, erowid, ect. learning about the marvelous world of psychoactive chemicals.

Swibf is similarly helpless to the seductive power DF and various other forums have over him(all the clandestine-y knowledge is almost better than that which they yield). He'll actually be forced to migrate to the nearest 24hr breakfast establishment or even the library.

Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

the amazing thing is that swim is able to retain all of the information she researches...she talks about it the next day to friends and they're like "wow, wtf is she on..." lol

but its not like swim is just babbling, swim is turning an illegal activity which is frowned upon into a 6-hour research session. ohh adderall...... too bad swim took the semester off , she could've used this towards her degree.

A problem with this habit is that short term memory seems to be transferred to long term memory in your sleep (REM sleep I think), so you don't retain nearly as much information without sleeping. You also retain less memory if you take it in over one long session, as opposed to several short ones. The last study I saw showed that three half hour sessions with short breaks inbetween was more effective than a single two hour session for long-term retention of information. You may be short-changing yourself with this method, especially when it comes to academics. It may work for an exam the next day, but if the final is cumulative you won't fare as well.

Good post, SWIM feels like that is very true. First several times using addies SWIM noticed the obvious mental improvements, reciting facts and random info SWIM thought s/he forgot, but as occassional use became binges, SWIM noticed many times where many simple things learned during those binges have been harder to recall (most commonly names of new people SWIM finds to socialize with due to s/he talkitive nature on addies).

If SWIY doesn't mind, could you point out the article which spoke of this? SWIM has been coming across other studies and such (not at all related to stimulant drugs) what show the increasing correlation between sleep and retention of memories... A simple experiment where 2 groups of people were giving some simple memorization test for a period of time, they then took a several hour break. One group taking a 30-minute snooze, the other remaining awake. They were then retested several hours later and the group who had taken the 30 minute snooze was able to perform up to 50% better when tested on the original information... can't remember exactly and have no idea about the validity or how controlled the experiment was. But it is interesting.

Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

Over this past summer, my friend not only learned about Adderall for the first time but indulged everyday with the pretty orange pills. His doses got as high as 200mg/day. He abused the drug every day for 4 months, with two 3 day breaks in those 4 months were he attempted to stop.

It is now 2 months after a full blown, cold turkey stop for him and he is 100% normal...finally. He doesn't know if doin' the cold turkey stop is the best way but he knew that he didn't have the kind of personality to taper off, he had to just stop.

He told me that Adderall withdrawal is absolutely petrifying, every day is hell. It's a hell that increasingly becomes more tolerable everyday.

Bottom of line of his story is that he overcame it with the help of his own concoction of vitamins and OTC supplements with no permanent side effects.

There is hope.

AmIHighYet needs to UTFSE some more before posting.
Re: An Adderall Sunrise.

Swim wouldn't drive when she has been binging for days. Swim tends to fall asleep anywhere, under any circumstances when she is sleep deprived from an adderall binge. That could be quite dangerous behind a wheel.
