QUICK san pedro dosing question
ialways see these figures for how much cactus i should eat in fresh weight of the cactus or the dry weight. if i ordered a cactus CUTTING online, when it got here would it be fresh weight still? or would the travel have dried it out some. i can't make a good estimate of how much i should eat wihtout knowing whether its dry or fresh. thx

Depends on the distance and how it was shipped. Instead of doing the cutting, why not plant the cutting and as it grows take cuttings from the plant and plant these so you'll have a fresh continual supply of cactus? A little patience here will reap you a wealth of pleasures. BA |

Bodhisattva500 is correct that your cutting will not dry out during
shipping. Two feet in most cases should be a pretty good dose. If you do decide to plant your cutting make sure that you allow the wound to callous. If your cutting has been freshly cut, this could take up to 6+ weeks, however in my experience allowing your cutting to heal for around 2 weeks is sufficient. If you do not allow the cutting's wound to hear, there is a good chance your plant will rot. May I also suggest doing what you please with the cutting and purchasing trichocereus pachanoi seeds. You can find around a 1000 seeds for under $20 at many web vendors. San Pedro is extremely easy to grow from seed and grows at an incredible rate compared to some cacti. Use a well drained soil such as a mixture of loam, sand, and perlite in equal parts. If you are having trouble with germination, try placing the seeds in a damp paper towel and placing the paper towel in a zip lock bag. In a few days you will have San Pedro seedlings. Good luck |
