Question Temazepam and Trazodone

I have heard very little about mixing these two drugs. I've always taken about 60-120mg of Temazepam.

I do, however, have a HUGE bottle of Trazodone; About 30 150mg pills.

I heard somewhere that the Trazodone can inhance the goofy feelings that Temazepam gives you, but I am unsure of what dose to take of the Trazodone, since I took 120mg of the Temazepam, what the side effects are, and how they will actually react to one another.

Any information on that for me? Are there any horrible side effects, or do they just mix in a 'rum and coke' type fashion?

Just want to be sure I am not stepping into a big step that could end up being a real doozey.

Thanks for any help guys!

First off, I am obliged to inform you about self-incrimination, as it is a one-way road to getting booted from these forums. Use SWIM (Someone Who Isn't Me) or an equivalent whenever you mention illicit drug use.

As for your question, the reason that you probably haven't heard much about mixing the two drugs is that most people find very little recreational value in Trazadone. Temazepam is a wonderfully blissful and euphoric benzodiazepiene--I would not recommend combining it with any other sedative, especially one like trazadone that tends to make people lethargic without any noticable buzz. Besides, combining powerful downers is dangerous and might land your friend in an emergency room (or worse). If your friend is stubborn and still determined to combine the two drugs, make sure he starts with extremely low doses of both, as downers tend to potentiate one another exponentially.

Re: Temazepam and Trazodone

Trazodone is listed as one of the 'Types of Sedatives' in Wikipedia under 'Antidepressants', one of only two listed under antidepressants, the other being mirtazapine (probably because of it has antihistamine properties, Trazodone does not as far as i can tell). Never the less, other things like antipsychotics are also listed there, and another group name for these is 'major tranquilizers'. Sounds good eh, if benzodiazepines are 'minor tranquillizers' and antipsychotics are 'major tranquilizers', then the recreational value would be good right? Well no, most people who have tried to take some thing like chlorpromazine (Largactil) will tell you the recreational effects are not good, in fact delirium is usually apart of the effects. I would say the same thing is true for trazodone, while it will have sedative effects, not all sedative 'effects' are good effects.

My friend has taken trazodone only once and it did not have recreational value what so ever, as said it is likely just to cause lethargy which is definitely not the same as sedation.

Have a look at Trazodone on wikipedia and note the side effects and drug interactions. I wouldn't mess about with this one, there are no other antidepressants in the equation is there?

Re: Temazepam and Trazodone

One interesting note about trazadone. It is in a class of anti-depressants called "tetracyclics" as opposed to tricyclics, SSRI's, SNRI's, etc. It's the only tetracyclic I've ever heard of....kind of if nothing else of value came from that class....

I'm not authoritative by any means, just a fact I happen to know about trazadone.

Re: Temazepam and Trazodone

SWIM has had terrible terrible reactions to trazadone and would not suggest mixxing it with anything else. In 150mg doses, it triggers acute anxiety, palpitations, and and overall uncomfortable feeling. A 50mg dose will make SWIM's nasal pasages stuff, hence preventing sleep as she cannot breath through her nose. Not a good idea to mix these unless you are familiar with both and start off with very mild doses.

Re: Temazepam and Trazodone

Ok guys. Thank you. Appologise for the 'self incriminating' thing. Will not happen again.
