Normal or Unique Mushroom Trip (Synaesthesia)?
A roomate of grandmas just took her first trip down the rabbit hole against grandmas advice warning that those with mental issues should not take trippy substances, this is her experiance report,125lbs 3.5ish of older(weaker) mushrooms, what shes wondering is if this is a normal trip. I offered my advice but she wants that of others.

She reported intense syneasthesia during the night, tactile, audio and visual. Last edited by fnord; 27-03-2008 at 01:35. |

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
every1 is different and every trip is different, so i think it is normal(ish) as far as tripping goes...but maybe recommend for future use to take even less just to be on the safe side...
would not taking the wellbutrin have played a part??maybe.. |

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
If these words were full-on hallucinations rather than just visual distortions or something of that sort, then yes, it would seem out of the ordinary.
EDIT: Wait, I might need some clarification. If this was in fact synaesthesia, sensing the 'feel' of a word or something like that, then that would be pretty normal, but literally seeing words (as in, they appear in your visual field, spelled out in letters) isn't synaesthesia, it's hallucination. |

SWIM has experienced some very bizarre things, but never words.

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
In that case it's unusual, but that can just be attributed to individual mental reaction. I'm sure if there was any exacerbation of mental issues, she'd know all about it, and it would linger for a while after the trip. There's little danger of that.

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
I would have to agree that full-blown hallucinations, manifest through the sense by only the imagination, would be unusual, especially at this particular dose, for a mushroom experience. Granted, mushrooms are known for their variance in potency, but assuming an eighth of mushrooms with high-exceptional potency of 1.00%, 35mg of psilocybin is not excessive, nor on the high end of the dose spectrum and would most likely not elicit these symptoms in the average ingestion.
In my experience, many early trip reports undergo a mental revision or reevaluation after the subject has further experience with the chemical. For instance, after my friends first mushroom experience, many years ago, he told me that he had heard the sky screaming 'blue!'. After more experience with the altered state he describes in more detail, Quote:

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
Synaesthesia is very common for my penguin. Seeing the words doesn't seem to be the odd part, the fact that she kept seeing words, and that those words were ones that she did not know, and finally that they formed sentences, is the odd part.
All in all though, even if it is not normal, it sounds pretty fun. Sounds like it was a reasonably good experience.

Re: Normal or unique shroom trip?
SWIM has seen textures such as stucco ceiling form strings of letters on various psychedelics, but they almost always disappeared once SWIM attempted to actually READ them.
The few occasions where they didn't disappear, they didn't form coherent words. This experience, while definetely odd, isn't outside of the realm of possiblities while on psychedelics, espescially if the taker has a more... *ahem* psychedelic psyche than most in the first place. I wouldn't be overly worried. =) |
